“Good if you're in Dubai - It looked like an epic ride - 220km across the desert - and that is what it was. It felt like what I understand it started as, a local club ride. Different riders have different ways of riding but there was some unnecessary telling off going on. Would also have been good towards the end to let the slower riders drop back rather than hold the entire pod back. Overall though a mammoth organisation to get us across the desert safely so a big thank you. And great BBQ at the end to refuel.”

“A great challenge! - The organisation and comms was excellent. I thought the police were brilliant and extremely organised with the traffic control. Only downside was that the pod I was in didn't have a ride captain so completely splintered after the first stop leaving some of us playing catch-up to get back into a group, for the benefit of having a support car on your tail. Overall a great challenge and one that I'm glad I took on.”

For those who are thinking about doing it next year talk to people you ride with who have done it this year and you will get a feel for the average you are able to achieve, hills and headwinds included.”

“Very good Support car small issue - A fantastic event and the police support and junction closures were outstanding. An improvement year on year so well done to the organisers. One small niggle, I registered my car as a support car for Raha cycling we were 30 strong and I had our equipment in the car to support us, I also briefed all my team to take care of the car and not put electrolyte bottles on the seats etc as it is a fairly good car. Car was in Pod H we were in Pod G. Other group in G had two cars. ”

Only recommendation is for a staggered bus return so the early arrivals can return earlier to Sharjah. The very late return to Sharjah was very disappointing after such a long day.”

“Good day all round - Registration at the start was quick and efficient but was advertised as closing at 4:45am which was too early for an event starting at 6:00am. The police did a great job and are worth a special mention. One of my fellow riders was hit by a lorry and lucky not to have had more serious injuries or worse. this was caused by the stupidity of drivers thus unfortunately don't think these kind of things will ever be avoided. Not sure the route signage would of been adequate if you were alone.”

The pod idea is good, but our pod just ripped apart on the first hill and that was that for our group. (I don't have a suggestion on how to improve this.) I wasn't particularly happy with the bike transportation back to base. My fork has a scratch that is not big enough to make a fuss, but big enough to take a taxi next year. ”

“Great event but really poor food and bev. selectio - Dear Urban Ultra, great race, greatly organised - Thank you!! compared to other great races (La Marmotte, Dreiländer Giro, Ötzthaler Radmarathon) you have a great organized challenge. But you need to upgrade your Water/food supply during the race. eg Cold Water at all stations, at the station after 4-4,5 hour race, real food to eat (bread or other - not a full buffet is needed :) ) See you Next year. “Great but could be improved - Well done guys - Couple of suggestions: 1) At the start no toilets facilities 2) 100km of dual carriageways not brilliant 3) Pods, great but ride captain should have more authority/power i.e. people that drop from groups ABC etc should not expect to drop to JHF and do 40kmh and road capt should have a no drop policy and maintain agreed averages 4) A silly medal is a nice memory to keep 5) Bus return should have choice of timing from 3 pm hourly 6) can Capt next year”

Perhaps have only one vehicle where rider bags are stored / transported to Fujairah (not one for each bunch (A,B,C, etc.). Great cameradie amongst cyclists - really enjoyed the company of those I cycled with.”

“An amazing well organised safe event - What an amazing event!! The you for making us all feel safe thought the ride. The police escorts were simply amazing!! The pods idea grouping riders of the same ability together was an other big one for making this event a great success. The BBQ venue was also a great choice. Improvement suggestion: have the number stickers made of plastic (or more a stronger material) and have them perforated so scissors would not be required.”

“Great ride, well organised, fantastic support - Fantastic ride. Excellent support from the police - felt safe on the roads the whole route, including the hills where pods were decimated. Support stations were excellent - water, aqualite, bananas, oranges, energy bites - all at good intervals. Great finishing location + bbq. Only gripe is the starting organisation - arrived at 04:30 only to sign in and wait 1.5hrs with nothing to do, while others showed up at 05:45 and had no issues signing in or starting on time. Highly recommended day out!!”

“Top marks to the police and all support teams - The arrangements at the start were absurd. The expectation that people would wait an hour after registration for the start was unnecessary. Registration for me consisted of being asked my number and having my name ticked. There was no signature required, no waiver signed etc. The PA issues and instructions, false start etc. while in the start chute was messy too. Would it not make sense to mark of the groups with a sign, rather than have everyone guess approx where they should have been?”

I do not have enough words to praise the police support we had - what a great job they did, and with the spectre of previous rides hanging over the event, I could not have felt safer.
