“Another strong event - Allowing supporters along the run route would be a great addition. The finish line area was excellent this year - lots of nice little touches to make it a fun day out for all. More equal and fair representation of women in triathlon needed - the pre-race panel and the elite field need a bit more thought in execution to make sure women are appropriately represented. TriYas is a super event in the local calendar. Big thanks to all the volunteers.”

“Great Experience - The team at ADMM put on a great event that was only let down by the timing service perhaps the worst I've seen. The finish area was fantastic feel with the food trucks and plenty of ADMM staff in hand together with volunteers. I think it needs to be better supported by Abu Dhabi triathletes. Shout out to TriBelles who had the best support for their members.”

“Exciting Experience with Fun - Starting with Swimming which makes your body and clothes wet , as yu run and cycle caused tremendous friction in your inner thighs .It caused blisters for me . Instead why dont yu end with swimming .Inside AbuDhabi nobody knew much about event and coming to Yas Marina requires your own transport.Yu could have a Mini Bus Transport . Marketing of event is weak .”

“Fantastic Event - This was my second Tri Yas and it was still brilliant, loved the idea of having the athletes village and having the food on the Thursday night there as well. ”

“1st Triyas Experience - Kudos to all organizers and sponsors of this event, need a little bit of improvement on the timing/results service and event photo service & giveaways, which is very hard for us to find our own snaps. Need to carefully scroll to literally thousands of em. Looking forward for this event next year and will surely be going back for another crack at this course. ”

“Great event - First triathlon, extreamly dissapointed about photo service. Impossible to find my photos even if there was any taken. Pls choose different photo provider for next time. No signs around Yas where to turn into. Dont live in Abu Dhabi, could have been signs on the roads. Enjoyed the course, would do it again. ”

“Overall Always Good - Photo Bad - Timing Bad - Overall always enjoy TriYas, great for spectators as well. Thanks a lot everyone. Vibe was mellow compared to previous years. Maybe less athletes. Photo service bad - scrolled 1hr and gave up. TIMESTAMP pn photos would be much easier. Timing bad and no T2 split. I could be easily wrong on these: (1) gate for run-leg didn't seem to have a time tracker (no sound), (2) had a feeling quite a few people cut cycling 1 lap short, but no disqualifications. All in all, thanks for the effort.”

“Great Event for Participants as well as Spectators - Pasta party the night before queue was way too long, gave up on the line & left after 30min. Nice course for spectators viewing for all 3 sports event. Bike racking could have sequential numbering hence easier to find one's bike. Big thank you to all the volunteers, good to have a bit of support on the course. Great round of applause for the organizers, volunteers, supporters on pulling out the event very successful. Photo service needs improvement, scrolling through thousands of pics is tidious”

“Great triathlon - Is it possible to have something to remove the salt when we come out the water (brumisateur, fogger, shower ...) There is lot of people but not many place for the bike at the transition... For the rest, perfect”

“Downhill from previous years - We always look forward to this event and this year the confusion overshadowed the beautiful venue and overall community feel that this race is known for. The biggest disappointment would be the kids 9-14 race. How do you have a race where no one can tell competitors what distance they should run? Sign up(premier online), race packs and pre race brief said one thing, race booklet and marshals on the course saying another. Hoping next year to see proper timing and better organization.”

“A bit worried - I am sorry to see that TriYAS is not timed anymore by PremiereTiming. They did a much better job last year. The results are extremely confusing to read, it is disappointing after the experience from previous year. The photo service was good, however the delivery of the photos is terrible. Not all photos are tagged (and this is understandable), so scrolling through thousands of photos it's an impossible job. Why can't we have multiple pages of photos, sorted by timestamps? Thank you! ”

“Just the photo service is a let down - Overall a great event, well organized. Would be nice if kids activities were more part of the active zone and not outside of it where there are no seats. The main letdown is the photos. As I was part of the last race, it looks like the photographers had gone home by then, also the search function and the photo site in general is really bad. I gave up trying to look for pictures, too much scrolling. Maybe they could be categorized by the time they were taken.”

“Great course, but improvements needed - Did this tri last year, and overall though it was great (a 9+). However, this year there was a lot of areas that need to improve: More time allowance between swim briefing and start to allow time for warm up swim/check equipment. Timing services not great - missing splits, and transitions. Photo website tagging leaves a lot to be desired. Bad signage for bike dismount/more laps. Change run course to be near more of the crown and add more signage and barriers-some people went on the track.”

“Fantastic Tri - A very well organized event and lots of supporters out due it’s time of day! Timing of event - mine had no T2 so can’t calculate run time. Event ‘giveaway’ of only a t~shirt could be more. Photo service not at all as promised, photos late, not tagged, just a mass of randen mixed photos that take forever to load and search - very frustrating ”

“Course is good - the extra things need improvement - The course was good as always. The pre event food was disappoint, we arrived after work to find large queue and no food. Disappointting that the 2nd medal was exactly the same as the finishers medals -either give a different design or don't bother. With all the photographers on course there was only one photo so me in race and the search didn't work so had to manually search through hundreds photo to find one. I have done this race 4 times and feel this one was not value for money.”

“Kids Awards for 2nd and 3rd Places - Firstly, let me say that the event as before was fantastic. An incredible experience for all of the athletes. Our daughter Grace Taylor set her sights on achieving a podium position this year and prepared well to do so. So she pushed herself hard and finished in 3rd. Goal achieved. I was disappointed by the paucity of the award for 2nd and 3rd places, which in essence was a different colour lanyard with a 2 or a 3 on it. Not in keeping with such a polished event. An oversight or economisation?”

“Great event as always and I will definitely be bac - Great event as always. I enjoyed it and will definitely be back. 4 minor issues/suggestions: 1. Better signage for Registration Desk 2. More time allowance between swim briefing and start to allow time for warm up swim 3. I preferred last year’s white and blue shirt to the recurring orange. Some of us have too many orange shirts already! 4. Support Crew missed last year’s live music, which they enjoyed more than the DJ”

“Great event - small changes will make it perfect - Great event, well organised on the most part, nice touches such as hair braiding and the Spingbok BBQ. There were disappointingly no women represented on the panel on the Thursday night. Timing results are pretty useless (splits are not working), club didn't filter through to the results, and t-shirt and medal not great. It's great that free photos are offered but their website is useless and hasn't tagged anyone so you have to spend hours scrolling through them. This needs work.”

“Sure was hungry :( - For the second year in a row, the pre-race meal was hyped up through email which made it sound like a great event. However after working all day, followed by a 2 1/2 hour drive, I arrived about 8:00pm to find salad and salad only. Frustrating because as I said this was the second year they have ran out of food. Overall, the event was great and I was especially glad the XXL shirt fit me. ”

“Greatest venue ever - Fantastic place to stage a triathlon! Great for spectators and athletes alike. The swim start was too rushed (17:30 start) as some, including myself, were not even lined up yet. Cheaters that did not complete the entire course were not called out in all instances. Overall a great experience and a fun day out.”

“Wonderful first experience despite small hiccups - As a first time participant, I thought the event was well organised, particularly the pre-race information (would have helped to have had more directions on where the Yas Marina Village was located though). I was hoping to see the times for the different segments of the race. Also, on the bike run, although instructions said that overtaking was from the right, that didn't really happen. That is perhaps because on regular practice days the rules are different. Worth looking into for the future. ”

“Greatly enjoyed my first Olympic tri - Felt more like a family event with great atmosphere. The start in the midst of a hot afternoon was initially a challenge, then it was fine. Swimming course was OK, marking on the buoys for the two laps could have helped. Cycling track was amazing. Some iso drinks and bananas on the running aid stations are welcome. Last the idea of pictures was excellent, though it took an hour to browse hundreds of pictures found none of me cycling. Loved the event thank you to the organizers and participants.”

“Generally good. The finish area was very good - Disappointed not to find any pictures of me. There was no rack to put my bike on so it had to be stood up next to a wall in the pit lane. The bike was also not checked at all for brakes etc.”

“Well organised, great atmosphere. - The pre-party was great to meet up with friends in a relaxed atmosphere before the race. On the critical side, I would have liked the possibility of more support along the runway: it now felt like a training round, just 'doing you thing'. Also: we received full water bottles, great, but many people including me threw their bottles shortly after that, still more than half full. Many people only need a bit of water that is easy to drink, so an option to choose a cup of water would be better. ”

“A well organized sports event - The experience as the first triathlon ever to do was amazing and have total well to participate again. Marshals were so supportive and cooperative. Following are the areas of focus I recommend in severity order: 1. I got my bike from YAS, inspected at inspection point, and upon bike round start I realized there was no chain in the bike! loosing more than 5 minutes to replace it. 2. I didn't get my Goody Bag (It is a great souvenir I like to have) 3. Sprint Triathlon pics are late to upload ”

“Total Confusion in kids triathlon - The event location was magnificent. Unfortunately, i already anticipated chaos on sign-up. Strangely there were 2 main categories for the kids triathlon, 100m/6km/1.5km & 200m/9km/1.5km & within different waves of runners causing enormous confusion. We were given the wrong color hat for our category, the marshal directed my son 3 times around the circuit instead of twice around. He was leading and didn't know where to go to come out of the Yas circuit. Had to pull him out of the race.”

“Lovely fun event - Results not clearly displayed. Would have liked to see splits, transition times etc - it was all recorded accurately so would like to see them. Photos not available as yet, which is well after the promised time. It would be sensible to filter photos by time of day, that way you can see your wave. Otherwise a great community event, with a good atmosphere.”

Nicholas T. - 17.02.2018

“Much ado about nothing - Respectfully, The once premier race on the calendar that seemed to be heavily focussed on giving athletes of all abilities the professional experience appears to be have been more about the elite (chosen) few. The race has the potential to be the best race in the UAE, to achieve this it would require a refocusing of its efforts on the age group athlete experience (98% of the field). Most of these points are highlighted in other athletes feedback. ”

Phil P. - 17.02.2018

“Results - Great event again however I'm not impressed with the results and timing service, when premier timing was used we had a complete breakdown of splits transitions and net timing this doesn't seem to be available this time, which means I can't compare past results, this sucks please bring back premier timing, I was also timed in the wrong wave, this was rectified but at this level basic mistakes like this shouldn't be happening, and i wasn't the only one there were many complaining about timing”

“Terrible timing and no weeding out cheaters - The lack of verification of the result placings is disrespectful to all comp. I did the Olympic 31-40 and was 2nd place in the age group but given 4th the overall winner was given 3rd. There are clearly 2 people who only did 1 lap of the run course but were awarded 1st and 2nd. With first doing a time of 20min on the run and would have beaten the elites winner overall timings, when they had a slow swim and run. There were 3hrs between finishing and presentation and clearly no verification done.”

“A great event in a great location - The race itself was a great experience. The only thing i was not happy with, was that my chip was missing in the race pack. I received an alternative one but I had to make sure with the timekeepers that the timing was actually allocated to my name. Some of the laps timings were not recorded. Otherwise it was truly a fun event. ”

“Room for improvement next year - I like the shorter course options this year, but confusing that kids could do those, or other "kids tri" distances. Discrepancy between sign up and race day distances. Parking signs helpful. Those handing out race packs need to be better informed, gave wrong answers about race briefing and race chip. Great atmosphere at pack collection Thursday. Girls loved the braids and nails! Run needs to be routed where competitors can be cheered along the way. Timing and photos need to be better executed. ”

“Poor marshaling and route wasn’t optimal - Overall the event and the facilities of Yas Circuit is excellent! However was super surprised to see so many swimmers taking the buoy too early or completely missing them. The cycling route on the F1 course was great but there was big lack of marshals, and I believe there was more photographers than marshals on the course, there was a huge lack of drafting going on and even worse the rule of keeping left was flaunted and created many dangerous situations in turns and tighter sections”

“A bad first triathlon race experience - As this is my first triathlon, it was frustrating to find out that i have a QRY race result thinking that i mistakenly did more than 4 laps for cylcing and did good in swimming. Disappointing to reach the finish line with all hosts already packing all their stuffs and no medals for the last ones coming in. I think i was one of those who last finished but my time is not definitely among the least (2 hrs 7 min). Sorry to say but this is really a bad experience for a first triathlon race for me.”

“Raced every year and Still needs tweaking - The kids tri at 1pm. During the hottest part of the day. Not wise. Was this moved to accommodate SST? Marshalls need to get correctly briefed. Child was not impressed when he tried to turn at the 1.5k run point to be told that he had to continue! Swim leg great. Transition great. Bike leg too many people dangerously underpassing and drafting. More inspirational music please! Run leg music please. Trophies please for top 3 AG not another medal. Timing, where’s the splits? ”

“Small things could move the event to excellent! - Amazing swim and ride course; stunning venue. Then you have to run around the iutside of the track, through empty car parks and passed dumpsters! Really very dull run; no support , virtually no music. Why no numbered spaces in transition? So much drafting and terrible to tell how many laps. Timing has missed many of the splits. Photos is a complete mess. Not uploaded by race number. Thousands to scroll through and not even listed by category. So easy to fix to get this fixed. ”

Ian F. - 17.02.2018

“Good race but needs drastic timing and marshalling - Enjoyable race and course but seriously let down by shocking timing , marshalling & results service. Swim course saw even elites cut the course and turn at earlier buoy. Not appropriate kayak Marshal's in right places. Bike course is a self counted lap scenario with zero draft Marshal's. Run course fine not supported Results absolutely shocking. Partial splits after race showed 31-40winner who finished 2mins ahead of me at finish line but has overall time 20+mins ahead. Work that one out.”

Vladimir M. - 17.02.2018

“Good event, with some suggestions - Pre-race briefing should have covered all three race legs, not only swim. Signage on bike track also didn't help you be sure how many laps you need to go. Looking at the split times in the results, it seems to me that some competitors exited olympic bike after 4 laps or run after one lap (half way), so I suggest to check rankings. Bike riding on the left wasn't obeyed, marshals were needed to enforce. Course was great, facilities excellent, atmosphere ok but not top in UAE.”

“Good event. Started too late - It was overall a good event. Need more marshals on the bike course to prevent drafting. Sprint 21-30 started too late. Needed signs to say how many laps to do on the bike ie: Sprint 4 laps, Olympic 9 laps. But overall good event. Medical team was really helpful ”

“Feed back - Ease & simplicity of online communications i.e getting information is always an epic. Information is never simple to locate it always seems to be under some other spurious heading. Access maps are great as long they provide reference points & true orientation. Better signage would have been useful outside the Yas circuit.”

“Great Venue and Course but timing service poor. - Pre event - Really nice family vibe. Please supply some veggie burgers next time! The panel question time not very relevant. Swim well organised, Transition good, Bike course no atmosphere and poor marshalling-people didn't stay left, some drafting too. Run course lacked atmosphere-no cheering volunteers or music. Medals, same for finish and podium, no prizes or trophies for 2nd/3rd.Timing terrible. Where are the split times? We all want to know how we did in each discipline! Still no photos :(”

“TriYas of all ages and levels - The signs for the cycling was wrong and it was fixed by PEN scratching over it as if when a cyclist is riding fast will easily notice what the signs Say, I noticed a few including myself were confused where to go. I am not sure about the photo service as they're not out yet. Hopefully they're good The info for collecting the bib was not informed which part of yas marina circuit! There were only one food stations for salad, bbq and pasta the line was HUGE, so please stick to the pasta”

“Event itself was very good, external agencies... - I participated in the Super Sprint T3 and was told on the day that photos would be up by 3pm (still not at 8pm) and the timings are not on the racerec website. I've emailed those companies directly and am awaiting a reply. I was happy with the event itself though. I thought that the transition area was a bit crowded and could have done with longer bike racks. Plenty of vegan food options available and a good atmosphere down on the circuit. Would compete again!”

“Total confusion for age categories and distances - The organization of the kids distances was a total confusion. I have registered my son for 10-14 age group (200m swim/9km cycle/1.5km run). When collecting the bib his category on the list was 9-13 yrs; which meant red group (=kids 1), but long distance, as mentioned above. In race briefing 15 before it was told 100m swim, 6km cycle, 1.5km run. After the race he was asked by an official, why he has lower distance, because he was registered at kids2. Total confusion and huge lack of organization!”
