“I enjoyed participating in this event. Unfortunately I had a puncture and when I got back to the transition area there was nobody to indicate where I could get some help. As I was not lucid enough I blew off my spare tube. I would have appreciated if someone could have helped me. I asked 4 marshalls for help but nobody could tell me where to get some. Though I would like to thank them for letting me do the run while I was disqualified.”
“Waiting around for waves is only major complaint (Arrived before 2, wave wasn't until 5:10). Plus drafting I was drafted for 2 laps on the bike, and apparently nothing has been done. Timings could be better is averages took into considerations the extended course.
However, amazing event. Will definitely be doing again. Really well organised and the course is great. Great day out! Lots of waves reduced crowding. Excellent event, highly recommend. ”
“Really enjoyable day, great atmosphere. Would like a breakdown of times for each discipline and transition separately. Also how you fared against your fellow competitors for each discipline.”
“Hard to see where to transition from the bike to run, I missed it on the first lap.
“Great event. But it would be really useful if the results showed all competitors' splits for swim, bike and run on the main results page as is normally done by other event organisers. It's very difficult to make comparisons of splits if you have to drill down into individual results.”
“Shame about the conditions, but good event, felt a bit isolated and soul destroying running around the back of the stands in the car park, thinking you were closer than you are and running back on yourself! (just mind games! he he )
Few idiots out on the track also endangering others, it should be a fun event for everyone!”
“Being a first timer I found the event generally well organised, the documentation comprehensive and the organisation good.
The option of on the day race pack collection needed to be more clear.
I had no problems following the course, however was asked numerous times for confirmation of the number of laps for each distance. This could be signed in transition, also on the board at transition entrance when passing lap completion/transition entry.
Generally very good and much enjoyed!”
“Despite terribly windy/sandy conditions, this was really fun. I especially appreciate the supportive atmosphere of staff and friendliness of competitors.”
“What a race with those conditions! But great !
Only thing I would say is pasta party on Thursday was a little short of pasta and should have 2 stations. Thanks a lot!”
“It was a well organised day which went well mostly. Only area for improvement would have been the run route which was a little confusing when coming in after 5k and running outside the fence.
Other than that it was an awesome spectacle....bring on 2016 :-)”
“My son entered the Kids Tri with a friend. When they had finished their bike ride and in transition for the run, the Marshall told them to go left and veered them to the left. This was unfortunately the finish line ! They were both disqualified!! Both were very upset. It wouldn't be an event with volunteers but PLEASE inform them on what exactly they need to do! He only had to check with them if they were finished or starting their run! Very disappointing for them!!”
“It would be great if the event next year is conducted in the morning rather than in the afternoon as it gets really hot.. ”
“Timing breakdown including Transitions SHOULD be included in the results posting, everywhere else it is and not pending chip purchase or not, which was not even clear.
Thanks for a nice event on a harsh weather day.
“It was a good event and well organised.
However I didn't reckon much to the slogan this year it wasn't very inspiring.
How about "why not TriYas- because I can"
The staff and volunteers were amazing very kind and encouraging. Well done to all. A very big thank you, I really appreciate all the hard work. Xx”
“I was in wave 10. This was a miserable wave to be in. Everyone seemed to have gone home and if you want to encourage local emiratis/less fit people to do it - this is not the way. You end up feeling like a loser in this wave, the marshalls are packing up and going home, no music. ”
“Online registration-it would be nice if we can select our own heat so we can run with friends/family.
One e-mail before the race is plenty and one SMS the day of the race-don't appreciate being marketed to via SMS after the race.
Event Pack had to be collected a long time before my heat - I suppose that is the nature of such a large event, but it can be frustrating as well.
I don't like waiting to get my gear after the race, especially when there is nothing to do - like pick up some freebies.”
“Great triathlon, not a lot to do if you have a family waiting for you to finish. The pre-race meal was not worth the time, nor was there options if you have food allergies. ”
“Good event to participate in that is well managed, fun and a lot more interesting than a normal tri. However, it is expensive and, given that, the giveaway (a pretty average orange t-shirt) was well below the standard expected for the price.”
“ was very badly sign posted.
Entrnace and exit to the circuit was not marked.
The stations along the course were limited in numbers and the atendances had very limited information.
They did not know the accurate distance to the finish ine. They gave incorrect information.
I felt the event was badly organised on the day.
I was extremely disappointed with how the event was set up and executed.”
“I was nervous attending my first triathlon but it was fantastically organised and the briefings were good. Could have used a few more communications via email upon registration and in lead up - information was available online but would have been good to have had sent directly. Enjoyed the event (as much as you can when you are pushing your body to its limit!) and would consider doing again. Just would wish for better weather next year, inshallah. Thanks.”
“Before the race the selection of restaurants and cafes selection is poor. Burger, chips but no pasta dishes etc”
“- Reaching T1 took forever
- Going into T1 was very slippery, I was not able to run to my bike, had to walk
“There was no water during cycling. With this weather I could use some more water during cycling and running.”
“Good event but I think that the pit lane may be getting to small for the event- I had problems with transition as people were all over the place and one athlete was even sitting on my stuff at transition. On exiting the transition area for the run - athletes with bikes were in the way.”
“You could have done with a few more team members on the course to mitigate the wind problems, as then the transition area suffered. One of your team handled some belligerent athletes very well”
“This was, as last year, excellently run and organised. The poor weather was a major factor in my disappointing result compared to last year but overall a good experience and will do it again.”
“The waves must be accorded to previous time and not ages. ”
“Should have been given more media attention and coverage prior to the event and post event as well! It is a major sport event and a lot of efforts were there to organize it.”
“1) the race guide should've been sent earlier (at least one week in advance). We received it few days before the event!
2) the exit during cycling wasn't well marked. Each contestant had the responsibility to count his laps, however the exit sign after completing the laps wasn't obvious.
Other than the above, I think it was a great event and I will definitely attend next year. Many thanks for the organizers.”
“Really good event, really enjoyed it. There could of been some more food outlets, but i'm not complaining. Hopefully first of many!!! ”
“Little confused in the transition from Bike to Run... In general was fine!”
“Had a cold race day...could not participate but was there to spectate
Definitely next time around...goodie bag needs to improve maybe
Course looks great..”
“Only negative was the lack of change facilities, overall atmoshphere was great”
“All the staff and support were brilliant and the event was slick in terms of organisation but given the world class location I feel it could have done with more and it did not feel like there was a central location. Sorry and this is a small moan as it all went very smoothly”
“Really enjoyed it so these comments are meant in that spirit. Racking and collection of bikes was a bit of a mess. I was collecting my bike while others were entering transition and it was unfair on them. The big area for improvement was for spectators. The singers were great but there was no food for sale and it's a long day for family and friends.”
“No dais for the 1st 2nd and 3rd to stand on. They left the male pros on stage the whole time that looked messy in the photos. They did not have the female pro on stage. They missed all the male Olympic medal winners. Just shabby. Then I get told I'm 2nd overall only to get an email two days later to say no the pro is first so now I'm 3rd. Just messy and unprofessional.
“The event is great but more support required on the track if you have to pull out. I never saw a support car or buggy to help take people back to the pit area.”
“More early information would be handy. More signage on the day. More water stations and toilets would be handy before the race and for family. More family stuff, especially for kids would be helpful, as they get bored really easily. But i enjoyed the event and have signed up for the next one. Thanks.”
“Well organized event.
Suggest shuttle buggies service to the Yas Marina Restaurants as a long wait from registration to participation, especially for supporters. ”
“According registering price and electronic pitch providing, the minimun is to get all detail timings!”
“Have support stations on the bike course.”
“Good - Medal, last water station on run had cold water and a gave a great shower, loved the Marshall at Viceroy bridge. Great event for first timers both adults and kids. Needs improvement - bicycle numbers on racks. No space to rack when I got back from bike, enforce or remove IPOD rule. Would have loved to use mine but did not want to risk disqualification, however saw plenty on the track. ”
“In regards to info... The info when it came was great but waiting until a few days before to get ANY info was hard for a first timer who just wanted k know a little bit of what's going on etc... No harm in getting some more details out. Little earlier. Otherwise all good. Thanks ”
“Pasta party: 40 minutes of queue waiting on kitchen to deliver the pasta, and we were barely 100 to service!!!
The venue was the viceroy the year before and it was beautifully organized... Move of venue for food should at least respect presence of food at time when invitation is made! A flop!
When the temperature jumped by 9 degrees the day of the event, the wind to over 30km/hr and the weather was like a furnace outside, providing water without electrolytes is simply not enough!”
“I was quite nervous as this was my first solo Tri, but the low-key atmosphere helped considerably. Questions could be answered by any number of people. The only criticism I have is about the bike route; it was confusing as to laps and where you got off and when. I as able to flag down a marshall and check with him but being concerned about that can take away from concentrating on riding! Thoroughly enjoyed the shower I received by one of teh support stations during the run.”
“I enjoyed the event, first event outside of South Africa and everything works pretty much the same. If IDEX is on the same time next year I'll definitely do it again!”
“The organisation and location for this event were very good, but the service around it wasn't good.
I had to ask many people, where the event center is.
The race results came very late.
Up to now I couldn't find any pictures.”
“Pasta party needed to be better organised ! in original documentation stated would be in ballroom in th hotel and at 7.30 but was in media centre at 6.30
otherwise fault less triathlon
“Good event. My first olympic triathlon. Need more water stations on the bike and the run. Especially since it was super hot and windy.”
“Would have liked more water stations on the 10km run”
“I would have liked to know more about the support available from shops on site, for example Wolfi's. Also late check-in was not clearly stated in the information. This was cause for a lot of stress as I had delay at airport and couldn't make it on time on thursday evening and my bike was damaged in transport and I needed a spare part. ”
“A great well oganised event.
“I really enjoyed this race, i'm not sure if its my favorite course but its up there. the swimming course was a bit difficult to ensure i was on the right path, what turn was coming up. the cycling was great fun and the track was great, could have used a water station though. the run wasn't that exciting but it was a good use of space. no free-be's or samples from anyone at the end, really nice medal. ”
“My 2nd TriYas - loved it again, despite horrid weather this year. It's a great challenge and wonderful to see so many first-timers. My suggestions: music (yes!), better quality t-shirts, better food stalls so spectators can eat, earlier wave starts - wave 10 started so late! Email race info, as I think many people didn't find/read it. Remind people of 'keep left' rule, as this was blatantly ignored by slow cyclists. Thanks to volunteers. ”
“I really enjoyed it, even with the horrible storm. Thanks”
“+'s...venue, medal, marshalls (most)
-'s...support stations, giveaways, rule adherance”
“Even with the worst possible weather . . . a great event !!!”
“Great day out. Shame about the weather. Long delay waiting for presentations and incorrect placings.”
“Great event in a fab location. Well done to the Tri Yas team. However I did notice that bike racking was quite chaotic and very congested in many sections. Would it be possible to include race numbers on the bike racks to ensure adequate spacing between bikes. ”
“Great event again, well organised, only complaint would be the 1st distance marker on the run being 3km in, it would've been nice to know the half way mark. Also not sure if it's possible but having music all way round would've been great for motivation!”
“-The race documents were from previous years; please update them each year as there was some false information, albeit minor
-During the briefing before the swim participants could barely hear the speaker due to him using a small megaphone > please use a proper PA system
-Please remove the music at the start and finish, or at least lower the volume; it was so loud I had trouble hearing what people were hearing.(BTW, my hearing is fine)
-Put up better signage on the road outside Yas Marina”
“On the whole very well organised, despite the tough conditions.
2 areas for improvement I noted - clarification on bike drop off time for Olympic - rules said 2:30pm but marshalls said 2pm. More water stations needed between 4k and 8k on the run and electrolytes would be a welcome addition.
I also saw several cyclists/runners with earphones - either change the rules or enforce them. Music would have been a great to help me on the run!”
“Without doubt this is one of the best races in the UAE. Even with the challenging conditions it was extremely well supported. However, there simply not enough F&B and seating for supporters. This is an excellent race for spectators and the family always attend but I don't think they will be keen if this is the standard :(”
“Had a good day despite the nasty weather which was well managed by the organiser.
Positives: unique medal, awesome volunteers on bike, easy check-in process and cool atmosphere pre-race @ village.
Improvements needed: blatant drafting in front of official marshalls, bland run course, goodie bag was low quality shirt only and warm water at aid stations during hot run. Not going to lie, was expecting a little better considering the very elaborate race guides and all marketing. Onwards&Upwards!”
“The signage was bad, marshalls (besides one very enthusiastic American under the Viceroy 'Bridge' during the cycle) were not knowledgeable, and there were not enough marshalls.
The conditions were not great, so one would expect poor crowds (which was the case) but then the organisers should have played the music louder and tried to create a bit of atmosphere.”
“Cyclists not cycling on the left and throwing litter on the track.
Well organised and would definately come back next year.”
“Thakn you to the marshalls their support during the race was awewome. The pre-race organisation was superb - seriousness mixed with humour - really calmed the nerves. Thank you.”
“Well organised and managed day. Thanks to all the Marshalls and helpers that make it for the competitiors. Well done all round and thanks to Abu Dhabi Triathalon Club for letting us use their villa to change in!”
“Very little to improve on, excellent on all accounts”
“Communications were slow and confusing. I followed the Link which appeared to have last years info.
The race was great But better quality t shirts would be good. ”
“Great fun but far away from similar events. No water on the bike run? Why is this possible? Evidently no one read the bike ride instructions as I have not seen a single competitor riding on the left. Marshals did not say anything. Most of skin stickers were not readable by the time competitors entered the water. It was the case of three out of four of mine. The last one and whatever was left of the others did not go away easily: I am now shaved and red-lobster on patches on my arms and legs.”
“First triathlon for me and my 10 year old son. A sandstorm and wind was hard, but it was an unforgettable experience competing at Yas F1 circuit, and all support staff were great.
“COLD water needed on the aid stations, it was humid and dehydrating and warm water just didn't cut it :-( ”
“For the price the lack of food before and after the race and the lack of sponges, food, energy drinks on the run (especially if you are doing Olympic) is not good enough. I ended up cramping on the run. I have noticed over the years the price going up and the standard going down. To start with there was hot food afterwards, then food in a bag, and now no food at all (except for a banana!) Agree with others about the great marshall before the hotel.
“I competed in the male sprint triathlon, wave 6, and felt the group was larger then practical making the initial few houndred meters of the swim very crowded as well as the small area designated for said wave between the swim and the cycle, however this was my 2nd attempt and maybe my opinion isnt the most experienced”
“Weather was clearly a challenge. ”
“Needs to be held in the morning. Need km markers on the run ”
just is great event”
“Overall was a great event considering the weather .My only complain are the useless swim marshals in the kayaks.I was on 3rd wave close to front and saw two guys cutting short the lap on the wrong buoy giving them 300m advantage. The marshals were close and didn't even react! One of these guys finished swim faster than the elite winner! Really no one noticed!? Advice to organisers for next year: train your marshals and change the color of the turnaround buoy to avoid unfair competition.”
“Two versions of the competitor guide issued - different times for briefing so missed it. Lack of marshals on second lap of Olympic distance run - almost took a wrong turn but remembered from last year. Make water stations evenly spaced. The medal is so neat. Enforce the keep left on bike. Great location and good overall event”
“Picking up cylces after the event was a mess, more entrnaces or better arrangements, despite runing waves, was not organized, better next time”
“Fantastic day, great fun and very well organised.
The only negative I would say was the lack of changing and toilet facilities, but that's a minor detail.”
“Very good overall.
Areas off improvement:
- nicer / better quality commemorative T-shirt
- pack delivery by mail for those not living in Abu Dhabi, so that we do not have to show up 4-5 hrs in advance to the race to collect the pack.”
“Yesterday's was hard, weather conditions didnt help.
Few suggestions for the future, we need more water stations...every 2 km is not good enough and even less with the heat...
Dont understand why music is not allowed on the run, if there is no music in the track (which should be) at least have people and marshalls cheering for the runners...10km is a long distance and had several km's were i was completely alone, no lights, no people.,.,.no music ”
“Good: ease of access and set up
Good: water station and distance markers on run
Good: swim location
Bad: food stations before and after race non existent
Bad: water stations on cycle track not offering water on 6/7 of my laps
Bad: access and support for families and those with prams
Bad: goody bag was terrible, a non branded t shirt being the only thing included.
Bad: no showering facilities
Bad: finish line offered little room for no of spectators present ”
“We were stronger than sandstorm!!!!
good organization in difficult conditions...”
“My major complaint was with the swim, I was in the last wave, the sun was setting and they tried to force me out of the water. The lifeguards in the kayaks were WAY too close to me and I kept kicking their boats as I was swimming and then at one point they told me to get out and get on the boat. I refused to comply and I continued on to finish the race. I think it was unfair of the guards to infer that you do not have a choice, and therefore disqualify people in the first event. ”
“It was my first Triatlhon and it was amazing! the organization was so excellent! congratulations. I has and excellent day.
The only think you shoul do better is the timing, There are rooky people that does not know the details, for example I didnt kown the difference between the chips and all the information that you can receive if you paid for one additional.
So for the next time a link for principiants could be cool!
“First proper Sprint Triathlon, org pre, during and post-event was top notch
Lot's of things to do around the event... pasta party, race-briefing and health X were a great build up
Race organisation around transition and bag drop was smooth although it wasn't easy to find changing facilities on race day!
Nervous about the swim but the marshalling and abundance of safety people on the course gave me confidence
Would have been nice to have some more food easily available after finishing”
“It was great even with great organization. My best regards to marshaling and all volunteers - they did tremendous job.
One thing to think about for improvement: some corner for kids around 1--12 years to play while parents are racing. There was nothing for this age group kids and unfortunately they are not allowed to race yet....”
“Would have LOVED more music around the course. It was way too quiet. Clocks too would have helped on the big screens. Apart from that, smashing event!”
“Loving the medal, very different and unique - well done! Well done to the marshals, especially the person under the viceroy every lap he gave a cheer!
Communication abit earlier in the week would have been nice, abit late notice only receiving timings etc on Wednesday. Also make it clear exactly when transition will be open, the race email sent on Wednesday said ALL participants had to rack bikes by 2pm (abit early for sprint racers) but then text message on the day said we had until 4pm?! ”
“Room for improvement from start to finish including prize giving (mens olympic results?)”
“Another fantastic event with great marshals. Recommend this as the high spot of everyone's triathlon season”
“Timing and Results gave me a DNS hence the 0%. The event though was fantastically organised.”
“A good event but think could improve a few things. No water on the bike - I ran out of my warm water and the marshals refused to give me water (although they had a whole table full of it) so was very dehydrated by the time I started running - very unsafe in those kind of conditions. Very poor race pack considering the cost of the event. Collecting my bike at the end was not very organized and has to wait ages. Loved the Marshall just before the Hotel bridge - very enthusiastic. ”
“Water Stations required for the bike, Come on Guys you need to be Proactive with that type of thing considering the conditions.
For the run Sponges, Coke,Electro drinks and Gels, the basics if you want to be taken seriously. Look after your competitors or they won't come back.
A mandatory briefing for the novice riders who don't understand there are faster cyclist out there riding trying to navigate around them.
I crashed due to a slower rider turning in front of me on a turn.”
“Amazing course around the racing circuit with friendly marshalls.
A couple of things for improvement:
Provide time breakdowns for each leg for all participants (not just yellow chip holders)
Improve the signage to the race pack collection on Friday from the car park”
“Comments; 1. After bike racking at 1.50pm my wave at 3.10pm my water in my two bike bottles was hot. Not sure how you get around this problem. 2. One water station on the bike course - come on Triyas and compounded by severe weather. Not impressed. 3. Water at the stations was not cold which is so annoying. Why not we ask? Why isnt their sun protectors covering water in cool boxes with ice? 4. Freebies are not worth giving away and for an event with 1400 entrants. Thats a lot of entry fee.”
“Great event overall !!
perhaps too long intervals between the waves, and giveaways do not do the event justice”
some militant volunteers,though!
more frequent water stations”
“Need water stops to have cold water, ice maybe or sponges. Very hot out there in the run! Great day, efficient and on time and very well organized. ”
“A nice triahlon without any risk from traffic. Information concerning numbers and stickers was not correct, communication concerning timing of bike racking was confusing. Support stations had only water (mostly warm) no sports drinks, cola or anything else. Some Marshalls were fantastic others seemed confused and not helpful. Collecting the bikes after the race was messy and I observed shouting and fighting between Marshalls and tired participants who wanted to collect the bikes.”
“1. There was confusion at the start of the yellow wave. Marshall said stay out of water, lots of people got in anyway. By the time he said get in we hadn't reached the start point when the starting gun went
2. Need more water stations with cups of water not bottles
3. Some sort of 'shower' as you leave the water
4. I called tri yas and was given incorrect info regarding rp collection
5. Should give times of actual race/waves in advance, not two days before
5. It would be help”
“For such a steep entry fee with major big sponsors, to not have a post race buffet on a full day event, limited giveaways, marshals unsure of arrangements/directions and, for the lucky winners, only a mass produced un-categorized glass trophy, let alone no prizes, left a distinct impression of cutting corners/greed creeping in from things that used to be standard. Come on Yas/Fastrack, take a leaf from Creek Striders Half or Wadi Bih and don't take us for granted.”
“Very good event, tough conditions and still delivered what I expected.
Raised the standard for all local events.”
“Overall good organisation although heard a lot of complaints about lack of water on the bike. Marshals were excellent and great course for this first timer
“Water station on the bike race considering the weather condition was a must.
Also kindly note that no water was available anywhere appart of the finish line...
Pre event comunication was done 2 days before the event i was expecting more.
Also it would be nice that the olympic course is the double as the sprint.
“Loved it!!! Turn off the 'Wind' switch next year though please”
