“Good - Event organiser Warren was very professional and organised. Track is beautiful. Medals look very cheap and poor both the metal (which looks plastic) and the ribbon and writing on the ribbon. That is the most disappointing part of the race. It also says there is a draw for a holiday which never happened. False advertising I felt. Perhaps it will happen on a different race but that should be specified. I don't know if the draw is still going ahead but it is still advertised as happening when you registered for the race.”

“A good event with a few improvements needed. - The start point was in a car park so GPS did not work. Collecting the bibs was a nightmare as they were all just dumped in a pile for runners to find their own. Otherwise a good event. Thanks.”

“Boring course, GPS issues - The course is a boring 2 lap straight road. Also didn't like starting under ground as this meant my GPS watch didn't work (many people around me had the same issue). ”

“Ok event, dull route, poor initial organisation - 1: The scramble at the beginning to sort the timing chips was not good. 2: The location is at the worlds most amazing horse-race course and the route was around an unbuilt area! Surely there would have been a more interesting route to run? As a slow runner it is the surroundings that usually keep me going as it takes my mind off the running. 3: This is my first event in Dubai, one of the richest places on earth, and the medal was the cheapest I have ever received, not what I expected. 4. The free t-shirts giveaway was as poorly organised as the arrival. Waiting 20 mins plus just wasn't worth it.”

“Badly organised - Thought we were supposed to be running round JBH Hotel gardens and not a 2 laps of a boring tarmac road! Bib and chip collection on the day doesnt work. Chaos with the timing chips. Caused start delays. Have to come up with a solution for the 8km shortcutters doing 4km and timing chips declaring finished secs behind 8km race winners! The racetec website results page doesnt work! The supersports website hardwork but finally got the results! Waterstations ok.Need a more scenic run and better organisation to get us back for the next one!”

“Well organised but a dull course - The route is not great but I guess it was a last minute change so not a lot you could do. Start & finish line would be better in the open area outside the car park as we cannot get our running watches to work under the closed area. Also its very cramped in the start area. ”

“Great new location - fun race - Overall very nice race. you will need to make sure we all receive our bib number before the race as there were a glitch there => long queue to get the bibs and chips.. but you know that already I am sure. Same to get the tshirt .... might be a good way to make sure that the bibs are back .. but was a bit of a pain to queue .. (not that much ;-) I miss the beach and typical Dubai landscape of the Burj, but meydan is now also an icon .. very good choice. Careful at the start of the race as they were some poles holding flags etc.. which could have been dangerous... easy to trip on. Best Regards Neslie Goode”

“Great event, an okay course, poor directions - Definitely enjoyed the run, the weather added to it, the location was not too far off for us and wonderful you guys got this through. However, a few suggestions to improve it overall. Firstly, a lot of us who are new to The Track, Meydan had to spend an extra 30 minutes just reaching the Track after arriving at Meydan, simply because there were no proper directions at Meydan to the Track, and one wrong turn or missed exit and we end up going all the way down to almost Al Ain and back to try reaching The Track and yet again the same issue. Hope you guys place some boards showing where the race is happening at critical junctions in the area. We know it now, but for future events at new locations. Secondly, the running course boards were not clear enough and the instructions not loud and audible enough for all to understand. Third, I noticed quite a few guys ahead of me actually jumping the divider instead to going ahead and taking the turn :O how unprofessional can one be. Cheating in a fun event like this. It does not bother me as I was doing it to enjoy the event, but am sure many others who do this professionally would not have taken it lightly. Hence, suggest place cones or ropes to prevent some runners jumping the divider just to reach the finish line a bit faster. Fourth, a lot of confusion towards the end as to what to expect next. Has the race gotten over or not, r we doing the prize ceremony for the toppers? None of which were clear as no announcement. Fifth, wish the course was better :( All said and done, I am looking forward to the next one :) and am sure you guys will improve the event a lot more. Do hope the course would be better in the future, like the one in Jumeirah. Thanks guys. ”

“It was good - Need direction at the start. Lucky draw for the prices was not good just asking a kids of their lucky number was not a good idea and especially calling following numbers. I would recommend to put the numbers in the box and take 3 numbers. Thanks ”

“Enjoyed it - I enjoyed the event however I had a few observations which I hope can be taken into account for future events: 1. On the day Registration. It became clear that autoassigning all event goers a 'pre-defined' number without actually communicating that number was not ideal. The number should have been communicated before the event so it was just a case of pick up. What happened was we queued for an exceptionally long time (good job I turned up at 6.15am) which limited time to warm up. 2. After the event, we picked up our t-shirts. I requested a medium but this was not available by the time I go to the front. Also, I had to wait nearly 25 minutes to even get the t-shirt - I did not understand what took the guys so long to give these t-shirts out. 3. The track was OK. I appreciate the 1st choice route is not available but I would not like to run this same track again. Would appreciate a new venue. Regards, Carl Downham”

“Good venue, poor course - Great venue, easy parking lovely setting. Shame about the course, out and back through a building site no scenery, no shade. I assume its was due lack of time and will be better next time. The roads around the golf course and even the ramps up and down to the different parking levels could be used to make it interesting.”

“Good, but more information to runners needed - 1. Ensure that all participants not finishing the race will not cross the finish line, and therefore take the prices from the ones doing the full race. 2. Double check the finish time of the 4 and 8 km and remove participant if unrealistic timing. 3. If people want to Swop race it shall be done before starting the race. If not done in time, they should be out of the race, not to course confusion. 4. 4 km run, why not just let all run the 4 km course. 8 k runners just doing the extra lap. Many kids stopped after 2 k, passed the finish line and took the prices from the kids actually doing the full run. 5. Liked the venue though Running course boring compared to Jumeirah Beach hotel. 6. Place boards where bib numbers can be identified. 7. Use 2 different sets of bib numbers for 4 k and 8 k, this way easy to identify the run the person attends.. Though do like it is reusable bibs. ”

“'Race with a view' is very questionable! - I was very excited when I booked this event for the fact that it was called 'the race with a view'. The fact that the location got changed quite late on when you would have known about the building work that was going on really annoyed me. What was made worse was that the course at Meydan was VERY opposite to the 'run with a view'. It was a boring, concrete circuit that really did not inspire me to want to be there. I spoke to several others too and they were quite upset about it! It should have been postponed, not moved to Meydan! I was pleased with the facilities that were at Meydan though. Just very sad that I paid 160aed to run around an 8k concrete track, when I do that for free when I train in the week.”

“Over-promissing and sadly disappointing! - Collection of bibs was a little chaotic, maybe put up a few more boards with names so people don't have to crowd... same as the timing chips, not on the floor and maybe assign them to the actual bib to save time! Course was a bit boring, specially when there are many places around Meydan to do a 4/8km event. Photographers were around the race but no photos posted anywhere... Results? Live results by email and SMS with live timing? Non existant, email with link sent several hours later with the results... Dri Fit Shirt/Wet Bag/Cap, got the shirt not sure if it is really Dri Fit...(collecting it was horrible giving back the bib before the lucky draw) but no wet bag and no cap included! Lucky Draw, really bad, really random, like 235? anyone? ok no 236? then 237? 238? 239? no proof of bib number and not an actual draw! Very lucky I was bib 234! More water stations and more volunteers to hand them out, also a few marshall could help. Great to see kids running, it is always a good idea but not when adults are stepping on them... I honestly expected more from an event that has been running for too long. Dhs150 is a little steep for an 8k! All in all it felt like a last minute organized event. ”

“Poor organisation pre and post run - Having taken part at previous events at the old location, this was a new experience and I can't say I prefer. The organisation at the beginning to collect bib and chip was not great, waiting quite some time and the return of bibs and collection of tshirt at the end was poorly organised and the last thing I wish to do after completing a run, it took me 20 minutes queueing before I managed to get it. I am sure these are all teething issues as it is the first at a new location and a larger number of entrants so I do hope things will improve for the next event. ”

“Road course very disappointing - We register for a nice course along the beach and the hotels from Jumeirah and it ends up in a barely service road in the middle of the desert... a discount on the 2/5 race would be welcome as a mere compensation and apologies!”

“Ok but not worth the money - The race was very badly organised - it would have been much better if we could have collected our bibs etc the day before the race. I knew my bib number, but still had to wait a long time to receive it and the timing tag. Therefore the race was delayed slightly. The course was fairly boring, but then this is to be expected in most races in Dubai. I was not pleased at the number of toddlers who were running around the course with very little parental supervision! The end of the race was a catastrophe. Water was not available immediately, and you had to queue for your t-shirt in the blazing sun, with no shade, for at least 10 minutes. Surely the organisers could have prevented this?!? The prize giving was a farce, as people had swapped races, opting for the 4km when they had entered the 8km, which gave them a very quick 8km time! The prize draw was also ridiculous. Why not pull bib numbers out of the box like at other events????!!! I will be back but only because I like running so much.”

“Disappointing organisation - This was very obviously thrown together at the last minute. We arrived early, at the same time as one of the organisers, who freely admitted he had no idea what was going on that morning. For us, bib collection was fine except for the fact that we were given conflicting information by two different organisers whilst queuing as to how to pick them up. There was a big lack of communication there. There was also no information from marshals that putting the chip away from the ankle would prevent it recording time. Finally, the safety pins where nowhere near the bibs and it took a while to find them! Why was there no pre-race pickup option to cut down on queues? The music was very muted and the guy counting us down to start was rather unenthusiastic! The course was OK except for the fact that we have to run up and down a curb in the middle of it! There was no scenery but it is what it is. There was only one distance marker and that was incorrect, it read 1 km of 3, when the course was 4km! Another grievance is that there was no clock at the end of the track so we had to wait for the time to flash up on the website in order to see how we had done. I cannot believe that there was such an issue with identifying those who had run a 4k instead of an 8k - the women's 8k winner was registered as having won in 20 minutes! The medals don't specify how far you have run. This seems very strange since it must cost very few dirhams to add three characters to the printing on the ribbon. The water stand was positioned very far from the finish line and we had to stagger through the queue of those waiting to pick up their tshirt. I think the issue was that this event was moved at the last minute, and unfortunately I felt like our attendance at Meydan was an inconvenience to all involved.”

“Unorganized - Bib collection process needs better planning, course OK bit boring, cheap medal, shirt collection took too long in the direct sunlight, post run water in the wrong location, timing very poor, dealing with complaints about wrong prize awards terrible. ”

“Nice race shame about the timings. - Quite a long queue to pick up our numbers. When giving out the race results and prizes at the end, it seemed a lot of podium places did not go to the right people! Seems expensive for what you get out of it. Also why don't they have an over 55 category in the mens? There are a lot of runners over 50 and 55 so it would be nicer to split that category. Getting the results out on the web site should be the same day.”

“Not satisfied - I was expecting more form a race that carries the name ASICS on it. Negative points: Running in the same cenario, as we ran 2 laps in the same place, is really boring; The water suplly wasn't enough and not higienic besides it should not be given in plastic cups; A sort of good songs and a good speaker is really important. Positive points: The access are was nice and easy; Parking with a lot of spots, however it was really dark inside ”

“Run great, Race Day organisation not so - + The run was great, lots of space for all runners, well marked out, plenty of water en route. - The on the day organisation wasn't well thought out. The queue to pick up my bib and chip was chaotic, the PA for the start was indistinct unless you were stood near it, but worst of all the runners had to stand in the sun after finishing for far too long to pick up shirts and medals, and the water was on the wrong side of the medals/shirts table, it should have been straight after the finish. All in all a good first experience in Dubai, but the organisers should pay a visit to the Manchester BUPA 10k next May for how to make things nice for people who have just run a long way in hot weather.”

“Teething problems, but event was broadly fine - I think the issue here is that the organisers have upped the game and their ambitions since previous 8km runs....more runners, grander logistics, more giveaways....and certain elements just didn't fall into place today. But I have faith that lessons will be learned, especially re bib collection, and that things will run more smoothly next time. The fact that the race started 15 minutes late was no big deal. The new course is OK if unspectacular....at least it was quite accurately marked. I think people moaning that Meydan isn't as good as JBH overlook the fact that Jumeirah charge a king's ransom for usage of the grounds....I'm happy to have a less showy course if it means more post-race giveaways. I was perfectly satisfied, and will definitely be back for more.”

“Room for Improvement - I was very disappointed because when I signed up this race was advertised as a scenic beach run but instead was moved to Meydan. I think generally speaking most runners prefer not to run lap races and prefer something more scenic but it was not the organizers' fault that Jumeriah is being renovated. The race did start late, the signage was poor (not every K was marked or clearly marked), and there were several issues with timing chips. Both my chip and a friends did not record at all. Regardless, I will probably run this race again in November because there aren't many other ones in Dubai but there is certainly room for improvement!”

“It is fun, it can be better - Overall experience was good. This post is just honest feedback to help improving. The organization can be better as there were queues in to pick up the bibs. The names/Bibs can be published in a panel so everyone can look at it. The timing device in the foot has caused injuries (bruises, even blood) to some runners. The T-Shirts at the finish line should be better organized separated by size instead of being in a big pile. The timing and results were quickly published. The venue is OK, the track is not very exciting but it is good enough. Great to see kids running, it is always a good idea.”

“Timing the race - For registering to 8 k and run 4 k is not the reason Mr. Timekeeper for y mistake! . It should be DNF in any case for those runners. Why give out 2 prices for same person. Why collect 2 prices, come on ! Pls learn from this.”

“Correct timing organisation is an issue - The event was generally good, I liked the course better then in DBH. The amateur timing approach ruined all the pros. At award ceremony all 3 prize places for 8k women overall and open category were given to Did-Not-Finishers who did 1 lap instead of 2. What a shame!”

“I expected more - To start with, apology accepted for the bib collection mess, wont talk about it as it is the first time using the new system. I believe the event was marketed to look better than what it really is, which is some how fooling people, we were told there was a draw for an all expenses week long holiday in the French Alps with 'Adventures in the Alps', didnt see any of that, also the event details mentioned Dri Fit Shirt/Wet Bag/Cap, got the shirt (collecting it was horrible just like begging) but no wet bag and no cap, we were told also that we will get an SMS and live timing, didnt happen. I honestly expected more from an event that has been running for too long.”

“It's expensive but pretty good - It's a shame this event had to move but the Meydan location is another good one - nice flat and fast course, if a little boring. The handing out of bibs was a little disaorganised today; I'm sure that could be done better. This meant the start was delayed which was annoying. I really enjoy this race, but it isn't the best value for money wise - Dhs150 is a little steep for an 8k. Could there perhaps be an option for those of us who don't want a medal to pay a little less? Overall, though, a good start to the series at it's new venue - I look forward to the next one.”

John M. - 26.10.2013

“New venue nice but race organization suffered - Two major issues. 1. A single file line does not work when hundreds of people show up at the same time to receive their bibs and chips and no-one was told in advance to come with their bib number memorized. 2. A disaster with 4k winners taking home prizes and trophies for both their 4k race and someone else's 8k race. To make it worse the 4k winners in question decided they did not need to give their ill got awards back to the actual 8k winners even after the situation was explained to them. Will need to sort out the 4k and 8k times being recorded and segregated so this doesn't happen again.”

“Well organised & enjoyable, even for a beginner! - No complaints about anything, but consider improving the organisation of the collection of the bibs and timing chips, so there is less time waiting in the queue...they also took quite a while to find the appropriate chip...5 mins at least, as they were all mixed up. But would definitely take part again!”

“The Timing & Results Were A Farce - Not a bad event; the bib/timing chip collection was a bit of a pain, if bid numbers had been sent out with the notification email regarding the bib system this would have negated the need to queue just to find out bid number. The start/finish organisation for OK although the position of the timing sensors meant that those at the back of the pack will have lost time on initial start off. The results were a total farce. There is no way the guy who walked away with the first prize actually won it (and certainly not in the 20 minutes announced)! How he had the nerve to go up and collect the prize I don't know. The organisers didn't seem to care either when it was pointed out!! Not a bad event but let down miserably by the timing system/results!”
