“Safety Issues prevent this being a fantastic event - Start race in daylight...Please. More police presence at critical intersections. Great village and medals”

“Nice to cycle on Dubai roads - Overall a great event and it was nice to cycle on Dubai roads. Even though it wasn't closed roads we still felt safe due to the numbers involved and the assistance of the police in blocking junctions to allow us to pass through unhindered - realize they could be at every junction but still a good effort. Only gripe would be that I don't think I was seeded correctly despite emailing past results and doing two build up rides...stuck in a very slow group for first 40-50km! Look forward to next year”

“All in All a Good First Time - My first time participating for the event. Was a good ride. Little bumpy on collection of the race kit and the race start however the build up rides were great and all in all I had a fantastic time.”

“Good event, poor marshalling - Once the routes were not closed, I was expecting the police scorts to be much better. My peloton had lots of problems, specially on the way back inside Al Quoz indutrial area. I was also disappointed that the start was so late. For the rest, thumbs up.”

“Good ride! - Thank you for a nice ride! It was great to be part of a challenge with many others! More like this please! However there always are something to make better: -Goodie bag? Where are the goodies? -Marshals: They should do their work - not just test their new whistle -Finish line: way too crowded - why not put it on a larger area? There are space! -And the speed pumps...they killed the speed allright, but also lost bottles and causing confusion. -Registration: where are the t-shirst? No reply yet!”

“A great event..would do it again tomorrow! - I really enjoyed this event. Course was better than before. Two areas where it needs improving: 1. Number pick up. Went on weds and wait for 30 mins and got nowhere due to queue. Had to return next day. Therefore wasted overan hour. 2. Seeding. difficult but I could not make any of the build up rides either due to work commitments or competing in other events ..eg the Dubai 70.3. Consequently was at the back of the race and spent all day passing people. Need to also use expected ti”

“Start Group - After registration for the event I emailed several times with my cycling experience and speed so I would be in a similar group for the start of the event. I never received any answer / reply to my 2 emails and I had to start in group D! This group was unfortunately not my level and therefore this gave me a disadvantage during the race! For the race next year I would like to start in Group A. If i will be seeded to a bottom group again I will not participate again. Kind regards Sander”

“Great event. - The event was well organised. Revolution Cycle tent did a good job checking bikes for the people who needed assistance. The Police and marshallers did a sterling job. I didn't like being on the Al Khail road as I thought it was very dangerous passing the intersections. This was my first time to cycle on the road so it was quite stressful. I did enjoy the majority of the ride. Thank you for an enjoyable morning. ”

“First timer - Well organized, the route was a bit hairy at times along Al Khail and through Al Quoz for a first timer but great times had overall. The T shirt could have been a bit bigger as I ordered a "big one" for me XL and cannot wear it as it is too small!!!!!”

“Good - but safety concerns must be addressed. - Enjoyable & appreciate the enormous effort that Stewart and his team had to make to organise it,thank you guys. What I would like to see now is a response to this events feedback (could only find one fairly curt reply from the organisers in all the f/back provided to date). What lessons learned and what actions to address these? Also add the question 'Did you feel safe?' to feedback requests. High % must be yes, or riders may not return. Repeat f/back from last event-countdown markers benefitial.”

“Worried about safety of riders - If I can ask to review the overall safety of the course. I was witness of a near miss involving a reckless driver that almost run over my partner in Al Khail Rd (Um Suqeim exit). Al Khail Rd should be either closed during the run or alternative route found. I also encourage next event is planned to start with day light. 7AM start would also give more time for bikers to arrive with more time and avoid the significant queues for parking. Finally I believe support stations can be better spread.”

“I had a great time - Communication of when and where to pick up the numbers and chip and how to install the chip was very poor. I had to drive for 3 hours and could not find the registration office. When I was close I called for directions and the lady sent me on another hour trip to the wrong place!”

“Great to see Dubai on a bike - Overall very good event however you really had to have your wits about you on Al Khail road / Al Quoz because every truck / bus was cutting you up even with a police presence it was risky.. A lane closure around the course in some areas would have made things more safe. ”

“Good but room for improvement on safety - Everything was very good but had some concerns re safety. 1. Slow traffic where possible on Hessa & entering / exiting the slip roads on Al Khail. 2. Some of the slip roads entering onto Al Khail and Hessa had no marshals and the marshals on the exits (I felt) were in the wrong place. 3. Traffic in Al Quoz showed a disregard for the marshals. Sad but true but this would not have been the case had the marshals been westerners not afraid to stand up to the drivers. Police & Marshals were great”

“A great event in challenging circumstances - The roads seemed busy for early Friday morning which didn't help at times - I expect the Police dictated the route, but on the whole it was pretty s***y this year through the industrial areas and back roads of Dubai - great event though.”

“Good challenge, build up rides a must for beginner - Marshalling and signage were very good, but on the sections with greatest interface with high speed roads then I would suggest greater marshalling or police presence.”

“Enjoyed the challenge, info and logistics lacking - Enjoyed the ride, 1st time for me. Will definitely do again. Good atmosphere and after race stalls. Info was a bit unclear pre-race and logistics in the morning and run up difficult (getting race number when working out of town) - car park was quite dangerous with people rushing to get in, limited spaces and unlit. All details that can be fixed. Will ride again next year!!”

“Room for improvement - >Driving on the motorway is pretty bad here, cycling on it is very bad. Less motorways pls. A guy in a high viz and a light stick isn't enough! >No directions or location given to pick up the race pack! Just try finding it with the information given. >Start line needs separate entrances not one just ahead of the C group. >Numbers were for race photography spiel - where are the photos or any info on them? >My race pack said Tshirt L, none given. >Race pack bag split at seam when given out ”

“Great event but a little scary on the roads - Grueling but enjoyable and I fear an accident in the future if they don't close off a lane on some of the busier roads. Al Khail with lorries whizzing by was pretty frightening. Marshals and police did as much as they could in the circumstances but most of us felt pretty exposed.”

“Another great event that showcases Dubai - Well done event organisers and marshalls. A great event, marred by some spills which is an unfortunate byproduct of inexperience, ill-discipline and pace. When can we get some rolling road closures or dividing off the cyclists from the cars, particularly along Al Khail Road and major intersections. Riding in a small group here is heart-in-mouth stuff and would hate for there to be an incident. ”

Stefan C. - 15.12.2014

“Great fun but a bit hairy in parts - Really enjoyed the event but i felt the sections on the motorway type roads were quite danegrous with merging traffic a particuar issue. it was ok when in a big group but i think had i been in a smaller group it woudl have been pretty disconcerting. a few km markers en route could have been good. also the feed stations could have been better signposted to give notice they were coming up and possibly 2 or 3 more people on the latter feed stations where being able to take on water.”

“Seeding system not sufficient - The seeding system wasn't sufficient, as many ignored this and went with various groups. Take into account that the build up rides pitted riders at a selection of speeds, this was carnage - people who clearly hadn't ridden in a group before making it very unsafe. The route was ok, Business Bay area wasn't ideal as a lot of poor quality roads and road furniture causing issues for some riders. The support vehicles were great, marshalling any traffic and keeping riders safe.”

Ian G. - 15.12.2014

“Great potential not yet realised - Was involved in a major crash on the motorway where the lead bike went down and many others stacked up on top of the lead. The motorway was relatively busy with traffic and potential for serious incident or death due to the traffic was there. This is not acceptable. I had to organise the diversions because the support car that came was not experienced. The route is not as glamorous as the advertising - please get access to Jumeirah Beach Road past the Burj, JB hotel, madinat etc.”

“Great event and really enjoyed it. - Very good event and well organised. Marshalling along the route was good and route signage for cyclists was good. However the signs about the event are not so easy to see for motorists. I would suggest some large signs along the route advising motorists of the event and route. This may help with a better integration of cyclists and the motorised traffic. I look forward to doing it again next year.”

“Great event, room for improvement - I would echo previous comments. Online registration was easy, I thought AED420 for the 5 events was good value. The main event organization was generally very good, although the pack collection was poor, and the goodie bag was almost empty! The route was good, would be great to go along more scenic roads but I appreciate that this is not completely in your control. Our group was well marshaled with good police support. Appreciate the huge effort it must take to arrange.”

“Brillinat Event - I really enjoyed the event and all of the build up rides. I did not enjoy queuing for my entry pack. I know some people were lucky and only waited 5 minutes. “A great event but needs to be safer on main roads - My first time and loved it. The only comment I have is that I expected some form of marking or cones on main roads (Al Khail road in particular). Knowing Dubai driving, I felt very unsafe when crossing filter lanes an joined up with a larger group (safety in numbers!). There were police on some but nothing on others. Perhaps temporary road marking (in red) which can wash off after the event?”

“Enjoyed it but dangerous route - I'm no cycling expert, 1st ever event BUT who thought that the route going through Al Quoz Industrial / Al Khail Rd.Hessa st, which are some of the worst traffic accidents was a good idea to have an event in open traffic conditions, police and hertz did best they could but this was far from a safe event. plenty of quiet areas in Dubai and lets face it there was no "sights of Dubai en route" so no idea why risks were taken”

“Good but Dangerous - It is fantastic to race in the streets of Dubai but it is very dangerous in the traffic especially on the Al Khail Road section. The traffic should be stopped for the 4 hours of the race. Why not use the 130km of track in the desert as you only use it for the build up rides.”

“Great idea. Some areas need improvement though. - Need review: Collection process for event stickers etc was very poor. Need to cycle the route before event as many potholes that were partly covered which just made it worse. Accidents caused where police were not pushing cars to one side so 100 riders had to scoot through the traffic. (Police were good generally though) Better if number of corners and humps could be reduced. Start should have gaps in barriers so riders can get in by the side. Great: Booking and results processes.”

“Happy Rider - Marshals need to give directions - I had a great day / event. Two negatives, 1) some marshals were just waving their light wand rather than giving direction which caused confusion. 2) could have emailed / sms'd / announced on the day the course had been reduced. Still a big thumbs up :) ”

“Still lots to improve on, but a great experience. - Like most here, I'm really glad that the organizers make this possible. It is a great experience and clearly takes a lot of effort. It was way better organized than last year! However, safety is poor, the route sucks (al Quoz instead of the beach road!). We all know HRH sheik Maktoom is a cyclist, why is the royal office not backing this? Supporting this type of event should be top of their agenda, otherwise Dubai is just a collection of tall buildings!”

“Loved every minute apart from the Al Khalifa road! - Felt really exposed to traffic on the long Al Khalifa road section across the junctions. I was in group c and when we got there the caution signs were flat on the road and there was a complete absence of any marshalled vehicles to see us across safely. I am surprised that the event cannot muster more volunteers to act as marshals. Local labourers with batons and whistles is a poor substitute. The rubber mats caused amatore accident in the business bay section too and I was fortunate to escape”

“A good event - safety concerns though - Really enjoyable and had my Dad visiting Dubai who did the ride with me - was nice to see a different side to Dubai. My only concern would be safety - I was really shocked to hear that roads were not being closed. I really can't believe we rode up Al Khail Rd - I don't think I would participate again if the roads won't be closed for riders - the drivers in Dubai simply cannot be trusted. Some of the marshals also waved us through traffic lights without making sure cars were stopped - dangerous. ”

“Very good organisation - excellent medical coverag - My issue is the section of the route that goes along Al Khail Rd. This is a very dangerous stretch with cars, buses and trucks travelling very fast in close proximity to the cyclists. I feel it is only a matter of time before there is a very serious accident. Due to the nature of the road I agree that it is very difficult for the official cars and the police to provide complete protection, therefore the route should be changed. I will not take part again if Al Kahil Rd is still used. It's unsafe”

“Thought it was excellent - MY first time at the SPinneys DUbai 92 Cycle Challange and I thought it was excellent. Organisation seemed very smooth, online registration was easy and whilst I did not do the build up rides I wish I had now. Little bit of an early start and the traffic was a bit sticky but on the whole very very enjoyable. The last 5km felt like forever but huge sense of satisfaction and relief when I crossed the finish line. I'll be back in 2015 :-)”

“Great event and very exciting but... - Really enjoyed the course compared to last year . Much better organised and signposted. I have some concerns over the safety with some inexperienced riders in our group ( B ) who caused two accidents but i suppose that is racing! Good atmosphere and really exciting course ( bar speed bumps and mats). The 92k is getting very busy now and crowded. Would not like to be in the d,e groups having to contend with the taxi's on the Al Khail road. Well done Stewart and the 92k crew.”

“Only started riding in March - loved it! - Some of the route when the roads merge, could have been scary if you were not in a group of cyclists. I was so had no problem. One of the marshall allowed traffic to go the same time as cyclists at the traffic light junction leading onto first Al khail road which resulted in the traffic almost knocking one of the cyclists! Is thre not a better route to go through instead of Al Quoz? Lorrries were a hazard there as well. I understand it is a mamoth task you guys have and enjoyed my ride ”

“Andrenaline pumping and dangerous in parts. - Safety needs to be improved dramatically. So many unnecessary accidents and why no lane closures. Riding along Al Khail and Hessa Street with very little support or safety in place is ridiculous. Competing with traffic should not be part of the challenge! not exactly a scenic ride riding along a highway and industrial area. The ride is an andrenaline pumping few hours which if you are remain off the tarmac a fantastic event but please do not wait for an accident til you address these issues. Tx”

Otherwise it was great and I'll definitely be back next year! ”

The course......should not start when still night, too dangerous. “Dangerous route on unprotected roads - I applaud the Organisers for putting on this enjoyable event and cannot begin to imagine the issues faced when putting this together. The Authorities will need to offer support to the Organisers in order to ensure that cyclists remain safe and that Dubai shows its best sights. The event has the potential to be world-class and I hope the Authorities will, in future, enable the route to pass through the more iconic areas with appropriate road closures and police support. ”

“Not good enough for an event as mature as this - The ride isn't 92km The number of support vehicles was nowhere near enough Doing this on open roads is too dangerous. Somebody is going to get killed by the traffic on this one year The race pack for this event was an absolute joke”

“Great event, will do again - Would prefer to start at sunlight (dark through NAS is un-necessarily dangerous) - just wait until Sunlight to start. Great event. Kind of expensive, would prefer a target price of 150 AED to participate. Course is very interesting! Event seems well managed. 3 Podium places nice and within 20 minutes of each class completion. I would be happy to help with promoting the event next year ”

“Room for improvement - Much better than last year's shambles of a race. Marshalls better, poorer route as one of the highlights was riding along Jumeirah Beach Road. Does it really need to be so expensive? Also goody bags are poor and medal is rubbish. Cycling is fun and free and with so much sponsorship the organisers should remember that..... Good event but room for improvement and many more similar rides!”

“Registration excellent, course and marshals v poor - An exciting open to all race, expectations are high. But, collection of numbers, gift pack too long, dont have time to wait more than an hour for this, also if the goodie bag is the same next year, just don't bother, absolute waste of time. Course too dangerous, Al Khail and AL Quoz a night mare and if there next year will seriously re think attending. Countdown to finish very poor, last marshal sent me back down Al Khail, most of the marshals didnt have a clue, where they trained?”

“Organised Chaos... - The start was in total darkness on a narrow, wet unlit NAS track Business Bay section had lots of concealed speed humps / pot hole & unmarked turns Al Khail rd was just scary. No escort or protection from the 120km/h+ traffic! Media City was just dangerous Al Quoz was again not manned at junctions so we were exposed to traffic crossing our peloton averaging 45km/h Photographer car almost caused several crashes Re-entry to NAS was also badly laid out Dangerous Ride!!! ”

“Enjoyable, but dangerous in places - Increased Dubai traffic made sections dangerous, particularly the slipways onto the Al Khail Road where I didn't see any police or marshals. The route didn't really make the best of Dubai landmarks , and value for money was poor. However, a massive thank you to all the organisers and marshals, a big improvement over 2013.”

“Safety Concerns!!!! - Firstly a BIG THANK YOU for all the volunteers and event organisers - this cannot be easy to do such an event in Dubai - well done. Now the down side - the safety of riders has to be the priority for such an event, as a first timer, i was shocked by the route and the lack of safety awareness. Al Kail and Al Qouz? what landmarks did we see there - too busy trying to stay safe. The build up rides were fantastic but the main event was a big let down for me due to the safety aspects. next year ?????”

“Overall a good day in the saddle - Vast improvement over last year - marshalls more visible and knew what to do. Still think Al Quos Area is dangerous as traffic blocked the road twice and Al Khail makes the un-iniciated riders very nervous. Hardly any spectators to talk of so move it out of town or close the right lane on Al Khail etc Underwhelmed by the Goodie Bag...when you consider the high race fee !! Alan on the Cannondale..”

“Danger on the route - The part that runs through Al Qouz labors accommodation is rather dangerous. Many impatient truck drivers (in BIG trucks) are honking, waiting for their turn to pass the 4-way junctions. Having workers, and not local authority, manning the road is not a big help. It was quite scary when you need to pass as vehicle might cross the road unexpectedly. ”

“Great event - well organised and lots of fun! - Pre dawn start - atmospheric and different (cooler too). Leave gates for late arrivals to get to their starting line up. Route - generally good, could have been more atmospheric e.g. beach road (which would have been less disruptive), Al Quoz dangerous in places and smelly! Water station at base of climb not good. Multiple speed bumps - ouch! KM markers would have been useful. Overall a great spectacle - and good to meet so many people from other GCC countries coming to Dubai for it.”

“A good event! - Overall this is a good event that takes a lot of people a lot of effort to put on...cant thank those people enough! However, as tough as it may be to accomplish, road or single lane closure would be the cherry on the top. Despite the efforts of more police and marshaling presence I personally don't feel too safe competing on Dubai roads.”

“Good event, poor event website - As a first timer my main reference point was the cycle challenge website which lacked up to date information and was not easy to use. I spoke to a few people during the event who said the same thing; that the thought of riding open roads on Dubai was terrifying, and we had all considered not entering for this reason. The Police did a fantastic job and their role should have been communicated. The website standards need to be improved along with communication to support an excellent event.”

“Great race - issues to be resolved - Riding around Dubai - amazing. Not having a support car for 50% of the ride - dangerous. Event Giveaways - none - a bottle of water and a popper is not worth the bag. Smaller events have better race packs. The build up rides need to be held on a closed course (65/85kms) as they were dangerous for other users of the track. The event is amazing but there are some things that must be fixed and rider safety is one of the major ones. Both safety in terms of support cars and also rider pack training”

“An event worth trying! - -Some of the routes were very dangerous especially AlQuoz and Al khail! -Police cars on the NAS track was not a good idea, I almost hit a police car which stopped at the corner of the entrance to NAS on way back! Nad Al Sheba road was the best route . Thanks”

“Enjoyed the ride, but room for improvement - While I really enjoyed the race, I felt that there could be more marshaling on the road, or even partial road closure. Al Khail road was the scariest for me with the cars were whizzing past me. I did not feel safe at all. I also feel that the Hertz support cars could maybe have big signs on them saying caution cyclists ahead as on a few occasions other cars did not know why they were being stopped and carried on driving without looking why they were being stopped. I almost got hit a few times. ”

Ambulance arrival for the seriously injured was poor. 40 minutes I believe. From previous 92's, I have found that the police attendance and road closures are good at the start but sparce towards the end of the challenge. Marshalling was good. Mike Murphy C891”

“A good show that is continually improving. - The race marshaling was significantly better than last year but could still use improvement. The last 40km where we're crossing stoplights along D72 Al Quoz race marshals were waving "yes" but the stop lights were saying "no". Things got really hairy when we went from 72 onto D67 (my least fav part). Also, the glass bottles being handed out at the finish were both impractical (because of the clean up required when they inevitably hit the ground) and full of high fructose corn syrup - nasty. ”

“Year on year improvement - Marshall's did a great job risking life and limb to keep us safe. Crossing major intersections on Al Khail road just too dangerous. “Disappointing event given all the hype - The pre-race collection was not very practical and friendly. On Wednesday i arrived at 7.02pm due to heavy traffic from work only to be told that it was closed at 7pm. the next day, when i finally collected the pack, they did not give me the tee shirt from the event. why? i don't know...The course itself did not include many landmarks from Dubai. And the support was weak...not many spectators. The good points: good police support to open roads, good marshalls, good atmosphere amongst riders”

“Great event, definitely do it again - Congratulations to the organisers and sponsors for a very well run event, shame it wasn't actually 92km though. Only gripe would be the use of Al Khail Road and lack of police presence to control the traffic using the exits on it. Riding in a bunch made it manageable, riding on your own extremely dodgy. ”

“Great event, terrible routing. - Extremely disappointed in the routing this year compared to 2012. (Did not compete last year). Riding through Al Barsha and Al Quoz was not pleasant (Industrial Areas) and the road (34th) through the back of Meydan was abysmal. Huge speed bumps completely destroying rhythm. “Disappointed! - For such a long course, it was odd having the first water station after 54KM, which was more than half the length of the course. “Dangerous Route - With the popularity of the event it needs to start in DAYLIGHT and have a better course. Riding on the highways with cars crossing in front is dangerous and someone will get hurt soon. Marshalls need training. Too many speed bumps and mats across road did nothing and rippled up. Car crashes in Al Quoz and local vehicles amongst riders = craze chaos.”

“Won't do it again - For this kind of fee, I would have expected a much more secure course. Not only the presence of the traffic on the motorway was dangerous, but plastic mats were leftovers on the road in a random way. we also went through a lot of works where the width of the road was variable. Also when I picked up my event pack on the day before (not really practical when one lives in Abu Dhabi) I realized in the evening that the number I had to place on my back was missing!”

“A bit dangerous - Crash happened infront on Al Khail rd and took me and others out on on straight, however, poorly lit road. Route a bit dangerous in particular Al Khail rd where cars kept crossing across cyclist path. The Marshalls were not really aware of the fact that cyclists were coming and not signalling the route. Sometimes they couldn't stop cars at intersections and nearly hit a few of us. I think a closed road situation would be safer. Even the bike track is potentially better option.”

Please can you brief and enforce ride discipline. I have completed events with 8,000 riders in Europe and never seen anything like this. It was bad last year, this year worse. “Very good event, should improve course - I did the 2012 edition. This year I missed the pass through Jumeira, Burj al Arab, and T The Meydan Hotel. “Some good some bad.... - Online registration- a good point, although quite expensive. Collection of race packs prior to the event can cause problems if you don't live or work near Dubai. I paid extra for a t-shirt, requested a medium and got given an XL- I know I'm not alone here. Parking situation desperately needs sorting out with marshals that actually marshal! “Great chance to get around Dubai on a bike - Registration process was straightforward. Needs more toilets at the start. Event pack collection could have been a little better organised - over an hour queueing in the sun isnt fun eve if you hand out water. Use the canopies to shade the queue and people will buy stuff as they walk past. I didn't use any of the support stations but I don't recall any signs saying they were coming up - perhaps a bit of advance warning ahead ? Still awaiting my results so I hope my chip functioned okay. ”

“Great ride despite the start. - Shame to criticise an otherwise great event but the start was a total mess. In the past there have been gates in the fence where one could join the correct group but not this year for some reason. So being in C group I could not start with the Cs because I could not get through all the Es and Ds who had arrived before me and blocked the track. I saw others jumping the fence to get where they should be. I wonder why that was changed? But thoroughly enjoyed the experience yet again. Thanks.”

“Marshalling was very poor and created risks riders - I'm not usually a complainer and I love the event because of what it stands for. However, here are some things that really need to be addressed: 1. Al Qouz is dangerous. Plain and simple. please consider a different route next year. 2. Pack collection took over one hour with one person serving a long que. 3. Marshalling was very bad.
