“Not bad for a local event - Very good swim course, 1 lap is best so hats off for that. The running on asphalt with soft feet after the swim leg is not ok, there should be mats the whole way (e.g. IM NZ). Bike course was lovely but obviously the palm humps are a problem. Despite reminders from organisers the course is littered with bottles. Once off the palm the bike course was brilliant. Run course nice. Aid stations giving out sunblock as cramp rub had no idea. BANANAS are a must on bike and run but omitted, not OK.”

“Well organised and planned event - Swin was fine, cycle course was OK, but any method to remove the ramps on the Palm would be good. On the run, it would have been better to have had more WATER as some of the stations only had Coke or isodrinks. While i understand the importance of offering room temperature water, a cooler option for drinking would have been appreciated. One of the stations had the option of cold or regular water and this was ideal depending on how the runner felt at that time in the race. wim was fine, ”

“Congrats to All Involved - What Christian, Venny and their team have achieved is amazing, I organise events for a living so appreciate the logistically hoops they had to get through, amazing job guys - be very proud. The volunteers were fantastic - and for a brilliant cause. My only feedback would be to have somewhere at the end to collapse in a heap out of the sun! There was just car park, a tent with some foam mats would have been a welcome sight, also more physios to give massages.”

“Great first event for the organizers. - The swim course didn't match at all the drawings from the brochure. I wish the event would have taken place in another location. I think Dubai is plenty of possibilities to avoid bumps on the Palm. The bike course was a must. Great and not flat and borring. Think to tell the gardener not to water plants on that day, I almost felt down on the palm. The run was as expected very hot. Some volunters at stations were keeping ice in the truck unless you ask for it, they ran out at the end.”

“VOLUNTEERS A HIGHLIGHT - The volunteers were amazing, the clarity of route was fantastic and we just probably needed a little more assistance when the traffic started getting a bit rowdy. The lack of headphones on the run was difficult. Transition and post event facilities were very well executed. Wish the medal said 70.3 distance. SUPER IMPRESSED!”

“A great 1st event next year will be even better - I really enhjoyed the event and overall was very impressed with the organisation. There are a couple of small things that could be improved next year. 1. Event pack collection-whilst this was well organised collection at rush hour (4-6pm) on the Palm is never a smart idea 2. 1st time so I understand but there was a bit of to and fro with the course details etc. 3. Police marshalling was a bit relaxed I had a near miss with a LandCruiser coming back on to the Palm Thanks to the voluteers!!”

There were a few problems - the traffic was horrendous and I am not sure The Palm is the best location. The bike course was great and it was really nice to be out cycling on the streets of Dubai. I had no problems on the run course in terms of drinks and I thought the volunteers were amazing. Well done to everyone involved.”

“A great debut - will go from strength to strength - This was a superb race, which was very well marshalled. There were a few teething problems, but that is to be expected of an event of this size and I think some of the comments on other ratings are a little unfair in this regard. I've participated in about 25 triathlons and other events and this one is right up there with the best in my experience (and future potential). ”

One minor improvement item for consideration would be the placement of support stations on the run route; the gap between the sea wall and the stations meant that runners who stopped to take on drinks blocked the route completely to faster runners coming thru; minor stuff!”

Will be back! - Event was well organised; the only massive minus was a short section at the end of the bike route which re-opened to traffic and caused a danger to some of the tail-end cyclists, including myself. Aid stations were well placed and the whole process smoothly engineered for a first-time effort. Well done!”

“A great first time event but ........ - I did the swim for a relay team. Swim was great but as I am a blind old bat, orange markers would have been better than white. Trying to leave the Palm was a nightmare. It is not the best venue. We were stuck in traffic for ages and I was concerned that emergency vehicles would also have been caught in the jams. Traffic management at the end was scary with riders and runners competing with cars and buses. But well done to all the organisers and volunteers. Learn lessons for next time.”

“Really enjoyed my first Ironman race - First half ironman event in Dubai, it is well organised for most parts for the race. Everyone has been warned about the cycling routes and speed bumps so it not a major issue for me. Awesome volunteers with closed roads, except near the end traffic management was chaotic on Al Soufuh Road so slower cyclists need to swerve in between traffic. No medium finisher T-shirt left. Also I was promised a free T-shirt being the first 14 registered, but never received that. ”

“Fantastic event! - Awesome event, very well organized! Only issue was the traffic (Vehicles vs Cyclist/Runners). I'm pretty slow, so toward the end of the race the vehicles started ignoring the safety cones and the marshalers were not as attentive as they should've been. In the UAE, once one car takes a short cut all others follow. This was hazardous for the participants. I saw one rider forced off her bike as she hit a curb to avoid a car. Luckily, she was not hurt. Overall the event was AWESOME!”

“A great start for long distance triathlon - The swim course was great but needed more visible buoys of the longest segment. The bike course had too many humps that knocked off water bottles, hand pumps, and bottle cages off from the bikes. The run course had to contend with vehicular traffic especially near the Atlantis hotel. Need to block off vehicular traffic in the run course to make this event reach its world-class potential.”

A load of bananas or something that they can eat immediately.”

I fully expect some major rants from the Dubai public who had no pre-warning this event was going to disrupt their day. “Superbly organised event, can't wait till next yr. - Just a couple of points which I would raise, only one of which is significant. The drink/feed/support stations were manned excellently by well-briefed teams. But could there be more of them? Even if additional ones only had water and electrolyte drinks rather than flat coke (never saw the point in that anyway) or Gu. “A great event, well organised - A very well organised event. Areas of improvements 1. Have a water sponsor who places a water delivery truck close to each aid station. Later on in the run wart was becoming short supply, especially on the outlying aid station. Having a water sponsor who can provide water on a sale or return basis would be helpful. 2. Place dumper bins in litter zones, as it gives you a target for your used bottles and my save some clearing up 3. x2 female toilet blocks for the men :-) Great day”

“Great event with high standard organization - I liked this race a lot. It was well organized and course was good, well marshaled. Only thing is pre-race communication which on websites was none and I don't have a Facebook. So some more informations on your race web would be definitely good improvement. “Overall good race for first time running - Don't make the T1 transition so far. My feet were destroyed! Can it be done later in November. Run was extremely hot. Why is the price for entry so high? It's the new Dubai? Traffic could be better diverted, fortunately it was not a hazard.”

“Lack of athletes saftey - Was unable to complete course due road reopening. Very disheartening with 11 kilometers left In the bike course and told to stop. Was not able to participate In last event though there was plenty time to complete all the events. Now to the athlete safety issue, once the event official instructed the athlete to stop, he was to told wait by the side of the Highway until transport arrived. No transport arrived, the athlete was just left there with no communication. ”
