They were pushing for us to get massages etc done after the event which were being provided for a charge”

“First Race EVER - Thank you for a great introduction to racing! I loved the 5K. The location was superb, parking was a breeze, pre-race collection of items was fast and efficient. I wasn't sure exactly where to go or sit, but was directed around well enough thanks to the large amount of help available. The water stations were decent. Having two stations at a 5K was nice. One thing I didn't see were kilometer markers at each kilometer. I for sure saw the 4 and 5 kilometer signs which were the most important. Along the path there were a nice amount of support staff which I was happy to see. One thing I was looking for after, especially considering there was a 10K to be run next, was free fruit, juice, smoothies or yogurt. I was surprised to see only pay stations. I was fine, but had been to smaller venues to support friends in races where there were more food items available to the people in the races. The water was key on the course, but it would have been classy to have a little something extra either before or after. All in all, a fantastic experience that I look forward to repeating.”

I can't fathom how you have a pretty solid idea of who is coming and what their size is, and somehow that doesn't translate into the ordering of the correct number of shirts. “Extra Water Stations - Nice Event - I wish water stations were more continuosly, I and a fat person and I had a hard time trying to get the another station to get water. “Generally good, but a few minor complaints - When I went to pick up my race pack, only size S shirts were available. I specified M when I signed up so I'm not sure how they ran out of the correct size. The only place I saw a timer was at the start/finish line. I had my own personal timer but this was different from the official time. It would have been nice to be able to pace myself better. Along these lines, I also found the distance markers on the course rather confusing. Some of them were not part of the race and I had to figure out which ones were for us. It would have been nice if the only distance markers were relevant to our race.”

T-shirt is the big disappointment!!!! -> we have been asked our size when registering and when we arrived at the event (more than 1hr before the start) there was already no more t-shirts, only S size. “Fantastic venue, mediocre organization - I loved the venue, it made it something really special. It was surprising to see so few other runners on what I believe is a draw to both Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The shirts provided were of low quality (given the price paid), and worse two hours before the race they had already ran out of sizes, so I had to run with a shirt that was clearly too small and uncomfortable (and which will be a gift to someone else now, as it is too small for me, and not the size I asked for (and had assumed would be reserved for me)). On the support stations I would recommend smaller bottles of water and preferably energy drinks. At the end of the race track it would be good to have fruit/nuts/cereal bars or similar (a standard in other countries).”

“Fun but not fantastic - Poor signage (we only knew where to go because we came to F1 races earlier this year,) no snacks/water for the runners after finish, no information on where to find the photos taken during the run. The marshals were absolutely wonderful. The overall atmosphere was good, too. But placing the start line so that the very first kilometer is uphill? Really?”

“Standards slipped - Oh boy. I've run at events from Florence to Singapore, so these comments are made in context. And while the course and the marshalling were superb, the on the day organisation was, at best, sloppy. Half an hour to collect a race pack? Why were there not double the number of staff? I booked a medium T shirt months ago, when I registered for the event. So why was I told that only small shirts were available on the day? No map of the athletes' village. I had to ask in three different places where the bag drop was. Someone said to me "we are Premier TIMING. We don't do anything else." It's not the fault of the people manning the stalls. Why did nobody think to brief them? When I found the Bag Drop tent, there was no signage to indicate what it was. And the two lads inside had clearly been given no advice about how to organise the bags. It's a good job they had, at most, fifty to deal with. They were struggling with that number. Again, not their fault. Someone higher up dropped the ball. On this year's showing, I won't run the Yas 10K again.”

“Underwhelmed - I ran the 10k and thought that there would be huge participation but unfortunately there was not which meant that motivation around the course was low, particularly as I am not a fast runner. Most of the marshalls were quite encouraging though. The race pack collection was poor and they did not have the t-shirts that we had ordered, they only had small sizes left! There was no compensation for this and they did not seem to want to solve the problem.”

Boxes and boxes of smalls? Very disappointing.”

“Course distance markers were unclear. - I ran a tight line around the course and measured 5.4 km. That extra 400 metres makes a big difference to the time of the run. Was the course measured accurately for running (not F1). If it was accurate, why were the 1km marker points in the wrong place e.g. the 5km marker was not at the finish - it was a long way before it.”

Only blemish: the organisers ran out of all tee sizes save for small rather quickly. They tried palming everyone a small, which wouldn't matter if it weren't included in the entry price. Only annoyance on an otherwise perfect day. Would certainly run this again. ”

“Decent event, shame about the t-shirts - I don't understand how the organisers could get it so wrong with the t-shirts - we've all stated our size requirement when registering. Simply give people the size they ordered and take away their ability to take wrong sizes. Definite room for improvement there for next time. And given the size of the field I think there should be scope for individual top 3 finisher awards.....it's tough on UAE-based runners if hotshots are flying in from overseas to scoop the big prizes. But those are the grumbles. Otherwise it was a good event, and in fact the organisers did a decent job in setting up and moving around so many people. I enjoyed running on the circuit, and some of the marshalls were great with their enthusiastic support. Also the ever reliable Premier Timing do such a great job. I definitely want to come back again....and hopefully I'll get my t-shirt!!”

“Yas Marina Circuit is a great track to run on. - The event is great. I will run it again and will happily encourage friends to come and try it. Packet pick up was a little chaotic. Also, I only ran the 5k this year, and the kilometers were only marked for the 10k event. I would have liked to know where I was on my 5k.”

Really nice energy at this race and would recommend it for everyone. But please get your shirt supplies correct and more organized next year!”

“A Great Running Experience and fun entertainments. - The race bag collection timing clashes with jumma prayer timing. time to start from home was late. pre-event communications were good. A little more varieties in energy giving food could be included so that it helps after the running for competitors choices. “Nice Family Event, just a few changes required. - Really nice event for the entire family to partake in. My only suggestions for improvement would be - Have isles marked for race pick up (1 & 3km and 5 & 10km) earlier on so that your runners competing in the next race take priority over other runners picking up their race packs or stagger race pick up times. Running races generally recognise and have prizes for 1st 2nd and 3rd, this is the only event I am aware of that only awards a prize for 1st place. Food prices were ridiculous 30dhs for a bottle of coke and chips, come on!! Other than that the race itself was great and we really enjoyed the evening, well done.”

“T shirt not available - I was disappointed not to receive a t-shirt. i was informed that my size is no longer available (around 4:pm). the young gentlemen working on the t-shirt distribution did apologize though, took my name and number and promised that i would get the shirt later. i hope the promise will be kept, otherwise i won't be taking part again in this event. what i don't understand is how this could happen. at online registration everyone selected the t-shirt size. the same was printed also on the race number envelope. was not sufficient no. of t-shirts provided? or the t-shirts were not distributed as per the pre-selected sizes? other then this, everything else was excellent. for me the highlight were were the race marshals who cheered the runners throughout the race. only this thing with t-shirt really spoiled the overall impression. not that important, but the fact that gross time is taken for official finish order should be announced before the race, i.e. during online registration process. i found out about this only when i saw the results. if i had known this in advance, i wouldn't have started at the back. ”

“1 K race was too crowded at the start. - The 1 K race was too crowded at the start, several children fell to the ground which made it very hard for the children that was behind them. They really never had a chance after that. The start needs to be done differently next year. ”
