“Mostly good, but sort that swim rope out.... - First time in this event but overall enjoyed it. Please sort the rope out for next time though.....”

“Rope Rope Rope - This was a great event but some consideration needs to be given to: 1. The rope that crossed the swim course (totally unacceptable) 2. A better PA system - couldn't hear the race brief 3. Better timing system (considering the entrance fee) 4. More martials to prevent drafting, collisions etc Thanks and see you next time hopefully without the rope!”

“Good organization - Distances appear to be missing a couple of hundred meters. Yellow buoy line should be removed next time, lots of people got cut, including myself. Overall, i enjoyed the event, good organization.”

“Not good value for money - The event was not well organized because for the money that was paid you expect decent water stations and more on the course as well as covered transition areas. ”

Markus K. - 05.11.2013

“Good Race - A lot of swimmers and triathletes good cuts because of the open water safety line, this can cause infection or deeper cuts and it is really a safety issue. Last race the safety line were new and nothing happen but by now almost one year in the water it is a dangerous issue to swim four times over or under it. ”

“Great friendly atmosphere but badly organised! - The race always has a great friendly atmosphere with a good course but it always seems badly organised. You can't hear the race brief and they don't remind people of the rules, i.e. Keep to the right on the bike course! No marshals on the bike course, no security in the transition area with lots of people walking through transition whilst the race was still on. What's the point of timing chips in a triathlon if you only get a finish time and no splits? Quality of the tee shirts was very poor for a race that cost AED300. On the swim course it was very hard to see the buoys and we had to swim over guy ropes that were covered in barnacles. There we people on the bike and run course without tops on, this is the sort of thing that will get the tri community a bad name, we are in the Middle East and we should respect the local community. The finish line was very disorganised, there was no run out and you were being stopped immediately so they could take your number and chip, then no one was there to direct you to the water. ”

“Its a great event! - Great event, well organised but seems to be a shortage of water, please dont be tempted to let it get any bigger.”

Darren L. - 04.11.2013

“Good - The no swim area ropes 200m from the shore need to be lowered for the Olympic swimmers, they are covered in barnacles and caused a lot of people to suffer cuts on their arms and legs. Keep people off the roads, I witnessed on person being knocked off her bike and another in a near miss, both were locals just wondering onto the road without looking.”

“Fab event and venue, room for improvement - Race packs - shouldn't have bothered, nothing in it except a hideous t-shirt. Timing Chip - didn't record any splits and did not cross a start mat. Race brief didn't cover enough. Swim course - why was the rope not removed? The green buoy was so deflated it was hard to see. A run in swim start across a start line would be better and even out numbers entering the water. Transition area was good as it was mixed sprint and olympic, evens out numbers there all at once. Transition was not marshalled though and there were bags and kit causing obstructions. Bike - lots of drafting, more bike marshalls needed on the course with whistles or something to give penalties/warnings - also suspect cheating with lap numbers but splits would reveal that. Pedestrians crossing the course and cars made it dangerous in parts - as you know with one accident. Men running with no tops on was horrific and they should have been disqualified instantly and not allowed to continue. The guy who did the whole bike and run in just his speedos - what??? This is a Muslim country and we must be respectful. There is a no nipple policy in many international triathlon races which are not Muslim. ”

“Ok - Floating ropes were not removed for swimming course. All participants had to pass it. I hurt myself in hand and leg, I guess I was not only one who run on that. Please next time remove that only for few minutes for the event. Thanks ”

“Could be improved - Please consider this constructive feedback: - Run course of 8.8km. Why? - ** the ropes across the swim course caused so many athletes to have cuts on their bodies. Surely this can be overcome and the ropes lowered in the water for duration of the swim?! ** - 7.10am start for Olympic. Daylight was at 6.30am - could the start be made earlier to prevent the later finishers from having to run in the heat? Thanks”

“Not happy! - It's really needed to remove the ropes at the swim or change the course, I have nasty cuts everywhere in my arms and legs. Enough to make me consider if I want to race there again! It would be much better if the splits times were available!”

“Almost there - Great new tee shirts and medals but finish line not clear and straight into the medal distribution - no room for sprint finish. The barnacle covered rope must go and cars on the cycle leg were dangerous. Otherwise a great event!”

“Overall good admin this time - T shirts should be specific to the event or at least the series rather than being a Super Sports generic T Shirt. Barnacle rope not ideal. Run course was shorther than normal for 10km, was it measured? Need timing with splits. Good to have photos. thanks”

“All good except... - 1)There was no signage for the end of the supersprint bike portion. 2) A poor boy fell of his bike and there was no one from the race around to help him. I raced after one of the SUVs and tried to flag him down, but he wasn't paying attention. When I finally caught him I explained there was an accident and it was as if he didn't understand me. 3) A race shirt that has the name of the event would be great. 4) The medals were cheap.”

“Some touches needed - The rope in the water was full of barnacles - some nasty cuts going around. It was highlighted but extra mention about the little buggers or take down a section for the morning? The transition from bike to run was a bit narrow, possible could be split earlier or widened. The water was no where near cool enough, more ice in the buckets. Other than that, good job - thank you.”

“Great triathlon event! - Start of the different categories should be managed better. Lots of confusion, (too many) people standing in the way on the beach. This time around the bike spots in the transfer area were very very small. Although it was announced that it was not allowed to keep bags in the transit area, it was full of bags with not enough space to put necessary race stuff. Route signage could be better. At some points several people are guiding the way, at other points (for example the first roundabout at the bike route) has nobody. Especially for kids this is confusing. Event has become much bigger (550 participants!) and organizers have to make sure this does not effect the quality. ”

“A good event - Nice and simple course beside (and in) the sea with good support. Fairly well organised apart from a long wait to pick the race pack up in Go Sports and the bike and run legs seemed shorter than the advertised distances or I've improved more than I thought over the distances...”

“Great event and course, see only comment below - Great event guys, I absolutely love these races and the course. only comment is in relation to the race briefing to mention to swimmers that's it's advisable to swim under the rope, as i saw quite a few peeps with cuts and grazes from it. cheers, ed”

“Next time take out the rope from the water - The race was properly organized as always. The only thing that disappointed me is the fact that you did not remove the rope from the water, a lot of people, even myself, got injured by this and bleeded along the race. Moreover I would suggest to calculate the timing of each leg of the competition and the transitions. ”

“Very good Event - The whole is very safe except for the sea part where we had to cross the rope. I and many others had cuts in our legs because of that. I suggest removing this rope next time or cover it.”

Joakim F. - 04.11.2013

“Great event apart from rope during swim - Great event but ended up with a big cut in the forehead from the rope during the swim and some smaller cuts on the arm and legs. Race 2 will permit wetsuit and I am not interested in having it cut to pieces on the rope. Removing it is obviously best option, alternatively the swim will have to be more along the beach instead of outwards.”

“Great to star an extra long week end... - My main concern is while swimming there was a rope across after the buoy where i badly scratch my hands and feet with shells which are accumulated on it. This should be at least clearly stated during the briefing and best the rope to be remove cause it really hurts...”

“Barnacle encrusted floating rope many cuts on legs - Good aid stations. Floating rope caused many aprticipants to get cut. It would also be good to have more separation between Olympic and Sprint events. Why not start Olympic last so we are not all overlapping in the swim?”

“Obstacle swim and dry run - I like the venue because the road is quite large and the run course gives your the option of track vs. pavement so suits everyone. However, I am still healing the wounds from the ropes in the water. I saw lots athletes with scars and/or blood everywhere which is unacceptable, especially when you have kids participating. Aid stations ran out of cups half way through and weren't serving runners as the heat got above 35 degrees. We went to give them our bottles so they would avoid fainting. Finally, the run was shorter than 10k, by quite a lot actually so all in all quite surprising to see people saying other organisers should come see how it's done because it's obviously not measured right - most people picked it up. Will reconsider this race/company in the future.”

“Overall well organised, getting much better - The start of the swim was confusing and i dont think it was 1.5k, the run was not 10k either, which makes it a bit difficult to be happy about the overall result! Also, by the end there were no water at all, could be dangerous in such heat and at least one person nearly fainted because of it. Apart form that, and they are relatively big, good event”

“Unacceptable swim course, run way too short - Swimming over lines with barnacles, very dangerous. Got all scratched up with some deep cuts. For a run with turn cone, 8.7km instead of 10km. Seriously?”

“Run Distance came in short - I completed the OD which meant I had to go over the rope in the open water swim four times, needless to say my legs are in bits with scrapings, It would of bring nice to have more timing maps to give competitors split times. The run I calculates was approx 1.2 km short ”

“Swim Course - metal wire - Swim Course was great except for the metal wire crossing the course - me and my friend had a lot of cuts on our hands arms and legs during the swim - same like a lot of other participants that we saw after the finish line- i hope you solve this issue for the next race - thanks for the great experience ”

“Course comment - I really enjoyed the race and thought it was well done. Really my only complaint was the shortness of the run. It would have been super easy to push the turn around point back to make sure the run was actually a 10k. Otherwise I am looking forward to race 2 of the series. ”

“Distances/Course issues. - Now I do t have an expensive garmin/polar, but I found the cycle to be short of the 24km, also the swim and the run I have also read reports both were also short? The run I think is easily rectified, but my main complaint is I. Regards to the bike course. In April I did not see anywhere near as many vehicles on the course while we raced this time, and secondly I really don't feel comfortable with the mid point harpin corner. I don't have any issues navigating it but many many people did. Can we not possibly shorten the course a tad so we just use one lane and ur turn the round about before the harpin section? We also had so many issues with pedestrians today wider roads would make me feel better. I also feel with the wind generally increasing as the event goes on, maybe the I troduction of an anticlockwise bike course and possibly moving the run route downto the dead end of the running track allowing supporters to cheer for their friends/loved ones more than once a lap?? Lastly, I do appreciate all you guys do to even put on these races, although I do feel maybe a few extra low cost adjustments would really make a massive difference tothe feel of the whole event. Just me 2 dirhams worth! See you at race two! Thanks again for everything. Earl Venner ”

“What a great introduction to Tri - So much to say - swim course was good - but the rope crossing caused some problems. I appreciate that the rope could not easily be detached but perhaps some vinyl or pu piping (with a cut along it) would prevent some injuries. So for the ride, great course with wind effect balanced out well. The marshalling at the turns was effective and the road closures held for quite some time. good job. And with the run following the same basic route but on the running track - no worries. The water stops were well spaced for the 5km and the turn well marked. Great job - thanks Andy. ”

“Great race... but remove the rope next time - The race and organization was great, but in my opinion there were two weak areas. 1. the rope half way the swim was dangerous. I came out from the water bleeding like most of the athlete. Next time it must definitely be removed. 2. after 2 hr and 30' last water stop didn't have more cups. Thank God I had my bottle (it happened also in april) ”

“500 Athletes and a lot of fun - Considering Warren does this with a relatively small team, he does an amazing job. Everyone had fun, no one cheated, and he caters for everyone. Beginner or elite, you should have a good morning if you can get into this increasingly popular event. Please move that buoy-rope though, the barnacles are razor sharp and while my skin will mend, my swimskin might not. ”

“Emergency service? - It's a lovely race, and I will come back. Unfortunately I wasn't lucky enough to complete it this time. Pedestrians can cross the road anywhere and can be very ignorant. I understand you can not control the whole area, but it is dangerous for the competitors. The 2XU race helpers on the bike were excellent! Yet the ambulance service didn't know how to deal with the situation, and neither did the local police man. So why are they there? Lack of ice at the transition 2 hours into the race was also unfortunate. ”

“GOOD EVENT - The swimming course was a little dangerous, with the rope of the buys, some guys get injures from that. The running and bike course was OK. In general the organizations was very good. I don´t like the part that the cars drove in the bike course, this can cause a very serious injured, but i don´t see how it can be better... And in teh next one you can slip a litle bit more the age groups, maybe each 10 years, i don´t you do that? Thank you João Marcelo Arteche”

“Excellent event - Excellent event, my first tri but had no stress as organization was very slick and really loved it. Location was perfect. Only complaint was that a few cars made it onto the cycle route including a fast food delivery scooter who decided to beep the cyclists in front of him....not the fault of the organisers however. ”

“Nice - A great race, liked the new medals and chip timing. The rope across the water was pretty fun, I would quite like more random obstacles in future! I think it gave me a few scrateches tho. I found the green buoy hard to see, can we get a taller one next time? I also thought the finish line was a bit vague. But I really enjoyed the course, thanks to the organisers.”

“Good race but has to move that rope in the swim - Good organised race as normal, but so many people got their hands legs and feet cut on that rope in the swim course. For the next race the rope needs to be moved or swim course changed as it is not safe and I am sure people will not be happy ripping their hands and legs again and their expensive wetsuits.”
