“Spectacular course you hardly find elsewhere - Although it is one of the most spectacular races I have seen after 32 years of being active triathlete, there is still some space for improvements. A bit less traffic on the bike course would help to ease draft free cycling. Is there any chance to get the split times of each bike lap? would be great. I enjoyed competing there!”

“Vroom vroom! - Can't help doing that down the straight.... :-) Love this course, not so sure about cutting it off a bit this year, leaving Sprint short, but every year has been different anyway. Draft busters non-existent? People riding all over the track, but wasn't a major drama as enough room but a few close calls. Always a good idea to smooth those corners off. Run was nicely supported with water stations and friendly people. Love the medal! Only glitch was not enough t-shirts in appropriate sizes.”

“A great event but need to learn from year to year - Overall a great event as always but a few gripes that could easily be improved to make it even better. Do we really need to be there 3 or more hours before the start? Really need to look at F&B quality, choice and speed of service. Could also communicate the number of laps on the bike better. We were told 39.5 kms at the briefing but no-one seems to have raced that distance. Small things but food for thought for 2015. ”

“Good event but more info on times for categories - I really enjoyed the Yas triathlon again this year, the only slight problem was on the bike trying to overtake on the correct side as slower riders were riding anywhere on the course. Also it would be nice to see the my result compared to others in my age category. Neither of these spoilt the day, it was a fantastic day thanks to the organisers and volunteers.”

“Excellent - Great event fantastic venue. Long wait between registration and start though and not much to do, no places to go. Needs some air conditioned rooms to relax before and showers for after the event. Also shortage of water!”

“Great location for triathlon - Loved the race at Yas Marina, riding on the F1 track is fantastic. Event needs more facilities though, food and drink facilities were poor as were the viewing locations for spectators. (Access to stands was not great especially for buggies and wheelchairs). Great event for competitors but not for supporters.”

“A spectacular setting to kick-off your Tri career! - Straighforward registration, but more comms leading up to race day would be good (other than event advertising, the 1st email I received was 9/2. FB posts were also minimal). Pre-race pasta party at the Viceroy was fun and I liked that YMC provided access to seasoned Tri veterans for newbies to learn from (Olivier, 'the Tri Guy'). Marshals did a great job, but more could be done to keep cyclists to the left. Course was great for Triathletes, but so-so for spectators. Timing data is amazing”

Amy B. - 03.03.2014

“Unique! - A great day had - thank you! Minor comments:What are the chances of closing off transition to finished competitors until a certain time or tying to have more marshals in the transition? This might help to ensure people are "aware" of their surroundings. I had to dodge quite a few people just milling around, chatting and collecting kit, oblivious. Finish area – nightmare! T-shirt zone should have been a little further away as it was pretty hectic, plus you ran out of t-shirts, so I didn't get one”

“Great Race Especially for First-Timers - A little confused with the race results; appreciate it is nothing to do with Premier Timing or Race Director. Perhaps i misunderstood; thought the first wave was a 'competitive start'. Appears i discounted myself from my AG (which i won, but didn't) by starting in the first wave, as did 'winner' of 51+ AG. Also 3rd overall wasn't 3rd over the line...the real 3rd won his AG not 3rd prize and I was 5th but actually 7th, confused...so am I. Suggest a 'sub-2:30' wave next time not an open wave.”

“Great Event - The event was very well organised and executed. I loved it and had an amazing time. My only suggestion is to have more communications before the event and more opportunities to pick up the pack and be informed of the procedures for first time athletes. Overall though it was amazing and I would do it again.”

“Great race, fantastic organization - Very well organized, volunteers are fantastic, especially a big thanks to the bike shop guys supporting the competitors, they are really appreciated. I think competitors are 'over-numbered' and getting these tatoo numbers off is no fun. How about one number on one limb? ”

Comment from Premier Online - 03.03.2014
“As per instructions on back of tattoo sheets; "To remove your tattoo rub area with baby oil or Vaseline for a few minutes. Wipe off with a dry paper cloth. Repeat if necessary." As the tattoos are professional (ITU standard) tattoos they are very resilient to water, sweat etc so only the correct removal technique will fully and effectively remove them. Hope this helps for next time!”

“Great experience - Flew in from UK just to do this event. Excellent location, fantastic marshalls, and wonderful for spectators, however timings splits not being available unless you OWN a specific chip.... have had the opportunity to compete in London and Barcelona and both offered this as a standard. Why would I then want to buy a "special" chip just for this event. Not good practice. You have everyone's times. Just publish all splits as standard...”

Comment from Premier Online - 03.03.2014
“All your split times are available on your timing certificate; no purchase necessary. The results and search fields etc by Premier Timing is completely free of charge to all competitors (just like the peanuts on your flight over) however the enhanced fully searchable and analytic online system provided by Premier Timing is a system developed as a 'loyalty' benefit for Classic ChampionChip (a global chip) owners (just like Business Class on the same flight; costs a bit more). :)”

“Great event, must do for triathletes. - Great event with the perfect backdrop. Everything went well on the day except for one thing, most of the riders didn't adhere to staying on the left side of the track while cycling. Ended up having to weave through traffic and shout warnings while overtaking. Had a couple close calls when 2 cyclists weaved to the right without looking, and almost crashed into me. Other than that, great event. A must do for any serious or wannabe triathlete. ”

“Wonderful event / Great venue - Loved everything about it. BUT 2 things: - was there any food outlet where we could buy food /bananas? The cafe was offering tarts and cakes, some tetra pack juice and soft drinks. Not great for athletes who'd want to eat sth before their race starts. (Maybe I missed it at the sponsor booths?). - Music: Live music is great for the spectators, but as an athlete I am not sure if playing a guitar/vocal cover of Gangstas Paradise is the best way to motivate athletes during their race. :) ”

“Great organisation and smoothly run - Spectator spots are limited, but over all it was really good. Stairs out the water i have been told were a great addition from last year. the ramp up from the swim was a bit slippy and could have had a mat on it. the finish line was a bit cramped with people and you didnt get much of a feeling of many people watching. over all though I loved it and it was my first sprint tri and i will be back”

“A fun race around the F1 track - A fun day out in a unique setting. The long wait until wave starts is tedious & makes for a long day, but the race is well organised and one of a kind. Nice swim, good bike course around the track, but the olympic distance run could have been better - the stretches through car parks were a little soul destroying. The finish line was rather chaotic and the t-shirts were ridiculously small and sizes ran out quickly. Nice medals though. Timing results are poor if you do not have your own chip. ”

Comment from Premier Online - 03.03.2014
“Results online (before you got home), personalized email informing you of such, in a fully searchable database, timing certificates (including full splits) and that's without owning your own chip.... is that really so bad? Hmmm...”

“Well organized. HATE the laps - Overall organization was excellent. waiting around all day is not fun before a race. Track started to get pretty congested on the bike and hated the laps... Ended up doing 1 extra on the bike. Run course was awesome. Did not feel like 2 laps of the same course. ”

“Great race, good - Great Venue Great race well organised. Will move to the outstanding category if there could be more food and drink concessions around in the hours between racking bikes and waiting to start . A long wait when venue runs out of water, etc. All in all would recommend to everyone "give it a tri"”

Andrew P. - 03.03.2014

“My first triathlon and it was excellent - Ran out of T-shirts for finishers and I, and a lot of other competitors did not receive one. There can be no reason for this as the organisors asked for shirt sizes and knew how many competitors there were. This is really poor planning. Also the lack of food outlets for competitors and spectators missed a good opportunity to make it a great event instead of a good event. It was well organised though.”

“Great race! - Well-run race, in a magic setup. Start time, at end of the day, is good too, for late-sleepers. Also takes the edge off the heat of the day. Bike course is 3.5km short. It would be better to do 9 laps instead of 8. Timing results are not broken down in splits on the website. You would get 100% marks if you would break it down in 5 splits: swim-T1-bike-T2-run (because the distance from swim to T1 is a bit long). Event shirt was large, when I wear a medium. Need to fix this.”

“Another great TriYas! - Well organised. Good to have the (free!) pasta party. Nice to see lots of first-time triathletes, but the rule of cycling on the left needs to be expressed - there were times when I had to cycle way off my line just to overtake on their right. Overall though another great TriYas!”

“Bike course distance is not an Olympic race - Super annoyed at the 8th lap to see the distance on the bike computer at 36.7. Knowing an Olympic race is 40km some of the participants did an extra lap including me which cost me the overall win. The online site stated it was a 39km bike and 36.7 is still not 39km. It is a fantastic race with one major flaw. ”

“Great event in a great location - 3rd time and every time I love it..the location, vibe etc.... The bike course is still difficult to judge with the loops and the fact that on the last lap when you enter the "bike finish shoot" you are at around the 36km mark on your odometer. I would suggest that you maybe mention this in the brief and also have a sign at the shoot to go back into transition to show what the approx distance should be. A great gathering of local talent and faces.... ”

“Great Event Well Organised but Ruined by Drafting - Great event, well organised and in a brilliant location. It was well run on the day and I really enjoyed it. My only complaint was that there was no effort made to police or punish drafting on the cycle course. I know its not easy but there was some pretty blatant drafting happening out there with some people drafting for the full 4 laps”

“A great first time experience! - The whole event was well organised and made my first attempt at the sprint triathlon an experience I want to relive again and again. The only downside I would say was the wait between picking up the registration pack and the start time of my event which made the day seem very long but there was enough going on to keep me interested and engaged. Marshalling on the course was exceptional and incredibly encouraging - exactly what was needed! A great event - see you next year!”

“Excellent event organisation - Hi guys, Just want to say the event was awesome. Great organisation and signage throughout. Only have 2 comments for improvement : 1. “Loved it! - Nerve-wracking 1st tri, but I loved it - already looking forward to next year's. The course is excellent. Very helpful being able to train each week on the same track. Marshalls were very encouraging. Bike rules were confusing; how to pass people on the right if they're going slow on the far right side of track? I was worried about being penalized, but just had to do what seemed sensible. ”

“World class event, loved it - Great event, very we'll organised loved it. Only criticism is that briefing started so early on Thursday and this wasn't clear in the email. “Great atmosphere but too long a day - Great race but due to so many waves and such big gaps in between, waiting around for nearly 5 hours to start was frustrating. “Great location for my first DO - Awesome !!! I have enjoyed every bit of the race, the swimming circuit is easy to follow and not too much participants in each wave. For the cycling, fortunately I had my gps with me cause I lost track of the number of laps... Three comments : what was the purpose of the tattoos ? I lost most of it with the wet suit. And maybe it's possible to segregate better the transition area so that the sprint runners don't have to arrive 4h before their start. Last : where is "DO 2014"on the Tshirt :(”

“Poor marshaling on bike course - The marshals on the swim and run courses were great and very helpful, but the marshals on the bike course including the race marshal on the moped were a waste of time! There were groups forming on the bike course, they were getting told to ride on the left but ignored that so I was finding myself having to cut I between people all over the course, also people were doing no handers along the back straight, the marshal on the moped went past a group of 5 doing this and said nothing! Unacceptable! ”

“Great Race! Thanks! - My only complaint is the T-shirt. Great quality, but it makes no sense. "Tri. Your. Self." should be "Tri Yourself." Why? Your is a possessive adjective. What exactly does "your self" mean? Yourself is a reflexive pronoun and is what is needed here. The single word punctuation doesn't make any sense at all. A better phrase would have been "Tri it yourself."”

“Great event - Fantastic event, well organised and tremendous course. Supportive marshalls, water stations well manned. Race village had a cool atmosphere with music and lots of activities for supporters (food, band, etc). Will take part again next year - just a couple of constructive feedback points: race pack pickup from Dubai, passing on right/left on the bike was confusing and dangerous at times, and people taking t-shirts without participating - should be in race packs. Thanks and see you next year!!!”

“Fantastic experience and extremely well organised. - As a first-timer at Yas Tri, it took several attempts asking different guides where to go to rack bike and where to go for swim brief/start - No signs or tannoy announcements. That said the Yas Tri Marshalls pointed the way and were very helpful. Very enjoyable. Great job the Tri Marshalls and Tri volunteers, Yas Guides need to know Yas and what's going on - empty heads.”

“Great event & location, communication to improve - Why do you only show split & transition times for classic chip owners? Disappointed I can't see my times properly for my first triathlon having flown over from Europe”

Comment from Premier Online - 02.03.2014
“You can view all your split times simply by clicking on your certificate, no need to purchase a Classic ChampionChip. If however you would like all the extra data that Premier Timing (not the event) provides Classic ChampionChip owners then you can always opt to purchase one (they're used all over the Netherlands). Sorry you felt your int'l trip was lessened because of not initially knowing this.”

“A very good inclusive event - Need to bring Age Groups in line with current best practice. Registration led to some age-groupers being excluded from categories. No matter which wave you are put in, if you are 50+ you should be considered to be racing in that AG etc.”

“Great day overall - I really enjoyed everything about the day, the only thing that was a bit much was crossing the finish line and coming into a jam packed crowd. All I needed was some water/gatorade and there were so many people I couldn't see it, then I had walked past it and had to fight my way back. Maybe if that was spread out a little more and people were forced to move on instead of standing around blocking the path for people that were just finishing? Otherwise, no complaints!”
