A criterium race is traditionally held over a short circuit of around 1500m. They are usually held on town centre streets with plenty of tight corners and road furniture.
It's a multi-lap race over a fixed period of time, 50 minutes for these races, followed by 3 extra laps. After 50 minutes anyone who has been lapped is pulled from the course. The remainder contest over the final 3 laps. Juniors race 25 minutes plus 2 laps.
These races require the ability to sprint and recover quickly, are generally high paced, and require good handling skills, mainly the ability to keep your line through a corner at speed.
Please note that to enter the Expert category, open to male & female, you must meet one of these criteria:
- Proof of riding & finishing at least 1 Criterium (multi-lap race around a circuit of about 1 mile/1500m with corners).
- UCI licence from any country.
- Written recommendation from a UCI licence holder.
